Primary cilia mediate specific neuron-glia attachments in C. elegans through the secreted protein BUG-1
Primary cilia are crucial signaling hubs, and emerging evidence suggests some cilia attach directly to cellular neighbors. Wexler et al. show that two C. elegans sensory neurons use their primary cili...

Synaptic dysfunction is a key feature of #Neurodegenerative diseases.
This review explores how neuronal signaling and glia-neuron interactions shape synaptic function and identifies strategies to preserve or restore synaptic integrity.

🧠 Alzheimer's research has long focused on neurons. But what about the cells around them?

GLIA 1 is the first study in Spain, and one of the first worldwide, to use a new PET tracer to visualize microglia and astrocyte activation in-vivo.

A new frontier in #Alzheimer’s research. 💚

Now published in @currentbiology.bsky.social !

Leland Wexler identified a very big, previously unstudied secreted protein that attaches neuronal cilia to glia.

By studying these key brain cells, GLIA 1 aims to better understand neuroinflammation, improve predictions of disease progression and identify new therapeutic targets.

Help us explore a new dimension 💚

Microcephaly-causative ASPM mutations disrupt mitotic spindle orientation and timely specification of human outer radial glia cells
Limame et al. address the human-specific impact of microcephaly-associated mutations in the ASPM gene. Using human cortical organoids, they show that ASPM disruption causes early deviations of mitotic spindle orientation in ventricular progenitors, which leads to their precocious delamination and thereby to misspecification of outer radial glial cells.

Neuron-glia interactions, collagen and other ECM, and maybe even a little bit of apical-basal polarity -- all the good stuff!
Excited to share my graduate research!

Schwann cells are primarily known for their role as myelinating glia, but we examined the development and function of their other form: Remak bundles!

Thank you to Jonah, all our collaborators, and all the Chan lab members for their support.
Remak bundle size, structure, and function are regulated by the Schwann cell basal lamina
Lillis et al. find that collagen IV in the Schwann cell (SC) extracellular matrix is required for SC proliferation and Remak bundle formation, but not myelination. They test Remak bundle function, fin...
