Bringing the ocean into view.

The Global Fishing Watch map is tracking activity across the ocean using AIS and VMS data—helping make what’s happening at sea easier to see.

#Aurum 9248552 seems to be shuttling out of #Russia port permanently now?

At least 6 visits to this transshipment anchorage during summer/early fall 2026 (to 06.09.2026 and 2 more trips since?)

Hooray! We now have an official company BlueSky account for Global Fishing Watch! #globalfishingwatch
Transparency is at the heart of everything we do - on the water, in policy and across digital spaces.

That’s why we’ve joined Bluesky. As more researchers, advocates and institutions move here, we’re showing up to share open data, science and stories that power ocean protection.

I can highly recommend the #GlobalFishingWatch vesselviewer tools. You can sort by dates/periods and it lists up ports visited, loitering/idling offshore and encounters with other vessels (if they are spotted....)

✍️ A new #IJMS #EditorsChoice finds #GlobalFishingWatch data can overestimate pelagic fishing effort by as much as 390% & urges stronger science–industry collaboration.

GFW, @emLabUCSB & @climatetrace.org 's first-ever pilot study mapped the emissions of all large industrial vessels operating at sea.
The analysis covered the activity of more than half a million vessels from 2016-2023. Here's what they found. bit.ly/41TQ0NT
