#google-containers
Made a google doc of different storage containers that we could purchase for our shed and created a spreadsheet so that we remember what stuff goes in which box 💪
It is time once again to discuss the Most Dad Things we have done in the past year. A couple of reminders:
- gender is a social construct, anyone can do Dad Things
- you need not be a parent to do a Dad Thing
- the definition of a Dad Thing is entirely subjective and maybe made up

I’ll go first:

Fun game: Google your employer's unreleased project codewords and see if the AI summary includes details about leaked info (published containers, closed beta login urls, etc)

I just finally dropped the remaining write permissions to the "google-containers" google.com GCP project 🎉

("google-containers" was a placeholder name for @kubernetes.io)

We moved everything there to community-controlled projects in SIG K8s Infra / kubernetes.io GCP org + @fastly.com & AWS :-)

"Google tell me about the Deposit Return Scheme in Ireland":

Ireland's Deposit Return Scheme has high return rates and a noticeable reduction in litter. The scheme has seen over 1.2 billion containers returned since its launch in February 2024, contributing to a 35% reduction in littered towns.

📣 Blog post that clarifies Google Tag Manager's upcoming April 10th update 📣

In this article, I'll explain what Google will actually do on April 10th in containers that run Ads and Floodlight events.

The change isn't as dramatic as many feared.

If you think holding people to the standard "label your NSFW" is censorship, I assume you keep identical unlabeled containers of sugar and salt right next to each other in your kitchen.

I bet you only ever use "I'm Feeling Lucky" when you use Google.

You must fucking HATE the Dewey decimal system.

When cooking ground beef you can add hearty grains (quinoa, oats) to stretch them

You can substitute eggs when baking (ask me or google)

Most veggies/fruits are sold in containers that kill them quickly (I think it’s intentional, proper storage will extend shelf life.

Yeah, netdata would be my suggestion. I only use it in a "one-off" way for quickly debugging a random machine that doesn't have "proper" monitoring setup but it's impressive.

When watching containers specifically, cadvisor is kind of perfect and closer to the request: github.com/google/cadvi...

Chrome has profiles which are tied to Google profiles. I use them at work, don't like them.

Safari has profiles. I use them for personal stuff and I like them.

Now Firefox dropped containers. I like a lot what the Firefox team does.

About a month ago, while looking through Russian NOTAMs, I stumbled across this location on Google Earth, north of St. Petersburg: 60.352N 30.772E. It was largely constructed between 2022-2023 and while I can't offer a definite assessment, it looks like a missile test facility.

Wow! I just discovered this infrastructure news! I supplemented this information with a Google AI search using the question "Is this accurate, true, correct: On August 27, Canada opened a 750 million dollar export hub on its Pacific coast. The facility is called CANXPORT." youtu.be/EpD3Mv-TRBk?...

WebKit Bug 277290 AX: Scrolling containers inoperable with keyboard (July 2024, critical):

I’m betting if we can convince the Google Chrome team that this is preventing uptake of CSS carousels they’ll dispatch an engineer to fix it.

The OTHER big event in Google in 2015, when gRPC came out was, of course, Kubernetes. And with Kubernetes really adding fuel to the fire that was containers, everyone started talking about microservices. Suddenly the entire world was starting to think about connectivity within their company.
