Yes, many sysadmins and graybeards did not survive the transition to cloud and gitops and programmatic infrastructure, I know it sucks, but that’s the job, that’s the game! You adapt to new tech/changing conditions or you eventually get edged out!

At conferences these days I see the graybeards (a group I suppose I’m joining), the mid-career folks, and a smattering of grad students, but the assistant professors are nowhere to be found. Grim.

To some extent its arguably kinda fitting for it to be somewhat fixed - the Dragonborn is meant to be kind of a weird savant when it comes to the Thu'um, lacking the full understanding of folks like the graybeards (IIRC Alduin even disses you for it at one point)
