Great libraries build great communities and must be protected!
Look do you want that money to go to libraries or to build a prison for the Browns to play in?
Cleveland Public Library is facing about $2 million less in state support this budget cycle. Smaller systems across Northeast Ohio are losing money too, leaving libraries with a tough choice: cut back or eventually ask taxpayers for more.

Local library services are awesome. They keep this compulsive reader supplied with a steady stream of free ebooks, provide a fabulous safe space to hang out when our kids were small (+ for many others), have great meeting rooms, and do loads more. Devon & Torbay link:

🎊 Last night at #LCSeminar2026 we revealed our Awards winners for 2026.

🫂 All entries drew out the great theme of our Seminar: they 'build belonging', in their communities, through work that extends far beyond the physical walls of the library.

Tonight, I had the honor of meeting U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff! We discussed a shared love of libraries, paths to affordable homeownership, and our hopes for the future of this country. From the Great Lakes to the Peach State, we're both working to build stronger communities.

find ways to build small communities (discord is great, purpose-built forums can be awesome, don’t skip moderation!), buy a network attached storage device (synology makes great stuff), invest in physical media, contribute to wikipedia, use open office or pages or word, visit libraries & makerspaces

Old quote: "Bad libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities"

Same person now: "The library community must shape AI toward ethical use and as a means of greater inclusion of authentic voice into the global conversation"

Reality of AI and community:
Preliminary results show that the current framework of "AI" makes ppl less likely to help or seek help from other humans, or to seek to soothe conflict, and that people actively prefer that framework to any others, literally serving to make them more dependent on it.
Sycophantic AI Decreases Prosocial Intentions and Promotes Dependence
Both the general public and academic communities have raised concerns about sycophancy, the phenomenon of artificial intelligence (AI) excessively agreeing with or flattering users. Yet, beyond isolat...

It’s called a public library. Build more, promote their use. Libraries are magical places and do great things for the communities they are in
