💡 Imagine if dishwashers were designed to have parts that could be replaced, rather than having to buy a new one when one part breaks (right now the parts are costly and specific to each brand and model)

This would create more local repair jobs rather than only factory jobs!

Africa's Green Economy Summit launches preview brochure for its 5th edition, with the City of Cape Town confirmed as host city
Africa's Green Economy Summit (AGES) has launched the preview brochure for its 5th edition, taking place in Cape Town from 23 to 26 February 2027. The City of Cape Town has been confirmed as host city once again, continuing a partnership that has anchored AGES in the city since its earlier editions. The launch comes as the world turns its attention to COP31, the UN Climate Change Conference. AGES is positioned to carry that global momentum forward, turning the commitments and conversations of COP31 into the partnerships and financing decisions that deliver Africa's sustainable development on the ground. “Africa’s Green Economy Summit is a must-attend for anyone serious about the future of our great continent. It is wonderful to combine great content from speakers experienced in the field with capital matching opportunities which make a real difference on the ground.” Says Hywel George of Old Mutual Investments. AGES has grown into one of the continent's leading dealmaking platforms for the green economy, connecting global capital with investable African projects across renewable energy, green transport, water, waste, sustainable agriculture, green buildings, the blue economy and climate technology. Inside the preview brochure The preview brochure sets out the early shape of the...

One of the characteristic properties of a market economy is that it rewards moving things from lower states of value to higher ones, and mounting solar panels is a clever way to make otherwise unproductive roof area into something useful.

Systematic review of green finance and the green economy towards SDG 7
This study provides a bibliometric analysis of green finance and green economy in relation to Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) for the time span 2015–2024, using a combined bibliometric and Theory-Context-Characteristics-Methodology (TCCM) framework. The results show a rapid increase in studies, especially after 2020, consistent with a global rise in attention to clean energy transitions. The output of researchers’ work and its citation impact are highly concentrated in a few nations, mainly China, with significant regional inequities, especially in Africa and Latin America. The report indicates a strong focus on sustainable finance tools, renewable energy solutions, and carbon-reduction measures. However, the equity-oriented features of SDG 7, such as gender inclusion, decentralized energy systems, and energy access for marginalized populations, are not sufficiently integrated theoretically or empirically into the research. Dominant theoretical perspectives privilege environmental efficiency at the cost of social justice, suggesting a structural disconnection between research focus and the inclusive mandate of SDG 7. Drawing on these results, the study makes three overarching policy recommendations: (i) the formulation of tiered, context-specific green finance taxonomies with SDG 7 covenants embedded in green bond structures, supported by blended finance instruments to de-risk investment in energy-deficient markets; (ii) the enhancement of...

PMYP, SDPI sign pact to promote youth, green economy
ISLAMABAD - The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Friday signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) at the Prime Minister’s Office to jointly promote youth empowerment, climate resilience, skills development and green economy opportunities across Pakistan, focusing on research, training, green jobs and meaningful youth participation in climate action. The signing ceremony was held during a high level meeting chaired by Chairman PMYP Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan and attended by senior officials from both organisations, including SDPI Executive Director Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri. The partnership will establish a collaborative framework to strengthen youth capacity in climate adaptation planning, raise awareness about opportunities in the circular economy and support evidence based assessments of green jobs and emerging workforce opportunities in Pakistan. Under the agreement, SDPI will lead research, policy analysis and evidence-generation initiatives related to youth development, climate adaptation and green employment. It will also share relevant research findings, datasets and technical expertise with PMYP to support evidence-based planning and programme design. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri said the partnership would provide a platform to link research, policy analysis and youth development with Pakistan’s emerging climate and green-economy priorities. He said...

South Africa's R3 billion investment in hydrogen projects to drive green economy
Professor Sampson Mamphweli, the head of the department and innovation’s energy secretariat at the Sanedi, said previously thtat South Africa holds the keys to the development of large-scale hydrogen technology as home to 70% of the world’s deposits of platinum-group metals. Image: Supplied South Africa’s leading financing institutions and some overseas development finance groups have committed funding to the R3 billion, SA-H2 Fund, which aims to help fund the development of a pipeline of commercially viable hydrogen projects. While South Africa’s hydrogen economy is advancing rapidly, it remains in the early stages of commercial deployment, lagging behind developed nations like Germany, Japan, and the US. These countries are already integrating hydrogen into their national energy systems and transport networks. The SA-H2 Fund, also known as Climate Investor Three (CI3) South Africa, was announced by Climate Fund Managers, a blended finance investment manager, which secured R3bn in commitments. The SA-H2 Fund focuses on large-scale energy transition projects across the green hydrogen value chain. This includes the production of green hydrogen, downstream derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol, and the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate industries. Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind, to split water...

The gathering effect: How Singapore unites the green economy
For innovations to succeed, they must survive complex realities. Singapore's initiatives and sustainability events have cultivated a synergistic ecosystem that can advance ideas into solutions. As the global push for greater sustainability intensifies, Singapore is positioning itself as a key regional hub for translating green ambitions into actions. With more than half of South East Asia's Green, Social, Sustainability and Sustainability-linked (GSSSL) bond and loan market and with roughly US$2.7 billion in private climate-related investments in 2024, Singapore is the region's leading destination for companies seeking to develop sustainability-focused solutions from the ground up. Singapore's status as a climate research and finance hub has also culminated in a density of expertise, creating a fertile ground for marquee MICE events that attract climate finance practitioners, institutional investors, and solution providers in a way that few destinations can match. This can help catalyse partnerships, creating the conditions for green projects to move from concept to deployment. This foundation creates the ideal conditions for Singapore's well-established MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) landscape to flourish. Building a supportive ecosystem for innovation where expertise and capital convene Strategic events such as Ecosperity Week and Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) help Singapore connect investors, innovators,...
