"Once firms were accused of 'greenwashing'. Now they seem to be 'greenhushing'—getting on with the job of decarbonisation, without making a fuss."

"This is welcome news because when businesses set green goals, decarbonisation tends to follow."

Let’s hope so. But working in climate communications, I’m very sceptical.

I think most companies will simply keep greenhushing instead.

‘Greenhushing’ is a trend that leaves businesses downplaying their environmental wins

Why? Fear of backlash, greenwashing claims, or just not knowing how to talk about it

Greenwashing in reverse? Maybe

But one thing’s clear: silence isn’t sustainable

From greenhushing to greendumping: @joeloclimate.bsky.social reports that funds are simply dropping green-sounding terminology so they can continue investing in fossil fuels under EU rules.
The EU just told finance companies they can't call their funds "sustainable" if they're invested in fossil fuels.

So companies got rid of fossil fuels from some funds. But for others, they just dropped words like "sustainable" from the name.

One premise of the recent reactionary backlash is that libs have taken over major institutions like Big Business & rendered them woke.

The fact that businesses are jettisoning their climate commitments at the first sign of political pressure should tell you how deep those sentiments run.

A new term: greenhushing. Instead of ‘greenwashing’ many of the world’s largest companies are now hiding their decarbonisation efforts. A recent survey of around 4,000 firms has shown that 16% have dialled back their goals, while 84% have maintained or raised them. buff.ly/vOitgCT
