Now, if we can just get the self employed GST ceiling raised to reflect it's 2026 and not 1996, that would be fantastic.

Seriously! We need to raise the GST threshold because $30,000 is so painfully low.
My additional wishlist: raise the GST threshold to $60K and have it keep up with inflation ($30K is still a small business now), and change artist income tax amounts to the average income of the past five years because it can vary widely (I don't know how it would be implemented but it's my ideal).

Opening up the budget a bit now.

"Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit Supplement"

Hmm. What goes on the direct deposit line in people's bank account? "CAN GROC/GROC CAN" or some such?

Honestly that name sucks. Should've stayed linked to the GST. Justifying GST now much harder. Boo.

$50miilion per month in GST from road price hikes.
Extra GST on the food, clothing, power, water, gas, council rates, prescription charges.... it adds up to a huge ammount of per month. Money that familes could invest in buying a home or pension.
Then they say
No New Taxes

In the context of Canadian tax, if you have a GST number, you should make sure that all of your vendors have it.

A bunch are registered for a simplified GST program where they won't charge you GST at all.

And that means any GST you pay to them is not a claimable ITC come tax time.

I just looked and in early 2025 before it got shelved the combined total of gst and carbon rebate was higher than the boosted gst, and groceries were cheaper than

Yachts and private jets aren’t tax-free, GST and provincial sales taxes apply.

The luxury tax structure in place from 2022 - 2025 was removed because it cost middle-class manufacturing jobs and sales.

The feds make more money from increased sales GST and income tax than they did from the lux tax.

How about raising the GST/HST $30,000 threshold for self-employed people? That number hasn't changed since 1991 when it was first introduced. Something that cost $100 in 1991 now costs $204,57. www.bankofcanada.ca/rates/relate... Making low-income Canadians stronger also makes Canada strong, eh!

They immediately raise GST (again) arguing it's an existing tax not a new one.

Add that to the regressive GST and below inflation wage increases and proportional burden on people with lower incomes is unsustainable.

The fact that Seattle and Vancouver now have a 1-hour difference between them isn’t the only sign of the idiocy of BC adopting all-year DST, but it feels like the most obvious.

All they did was increase GST by minuscule percentage and renamed. Such a farce.
