Handcoding I guess
I'm looking to build a new website (sort of a followup to callingbullshit.org) that presents content in a "scrollytelling"
style.
I'm reasonably facile at handcoding html and css but by no means a web developer.
Anyone have preferred platforms/development software for this sort of thing?

I was writing up an anecdote about making extra cash handcoding ebooks for indie presses back in the early days of the Kindle, and briefly thought about including the name of the press that sold plenty of the books I did for them but never paid me. I never would, but also freelancers never forget...

I only know that handcoding occupations is a rite de passage that any true sociologist must go through. I recommend at least 5000 of them

I mean my plan was to do it OLD SCHOOL the way I literally did it in 1999 by just handcoding new news on the front page and moving old news to a separate page called "old-news.html" lol

So that's a very quick download on throwing up a very basic but serviceable static website RIGHT NOW. You can even blog with that kind of site - handcoding updates like we did back in 1999!
But if you want more automation, the next step up would be something like Wordpress.

I'm handcoding every abstract in AJS, ASR, and AERJ from 1965-2019. It's striking how sociologists tend to study education as a black box for X or Y effects rather than as a social location in its own right; in contrast, there's much more interest in what happens within organizations.

Having the frontier LLM providers down today came with a measure of frustration which then shortly turned into joy.
Also great to get validation for doing hybrid AI work where i purposefully pick handcoding certain tasks and offloading others.
No-AI days pay off when there's no AI

At this point, I have not seen a really good indication that handcoding yields better results than ai coding in any dimension, so I'm really skeptical of that point of view. But I would like to see that case get made well

it's definitely a lot of that. gen z and alpha grew up on 3 websites and handcoding html to make ur own crappy website is "retro" so it's all new to them

While the thrill is similar, that world was built on Open Source. This is built on corporatized/VC-ized tech and their, well, bad vibes.

Frankly I'm more than fine with it. If artisanal handcoding is your hobby fine, but I don't give a fuck if there's some function with counterintuitive behavior that is more effective here and I don't want to remember syntax subtleties in yet another language.

I am pretty sure what we have now is better than handcoding webcomic PERL scripts back in 1997 or whatever but like, I kinda miss that?
Anyway what I'm saying is that I have feelings about Webtoons and the biggest one is why haven't they put out a Mage and Demon Queen printed omnibus yet. (3/3)
