#ILWU founding president #HarryBridges was born in #Australia on #ThisDayInHistory in 1901. His activism started with #ILA, before his new, more radical #union replaced it. When #CIO and other unions purged #communists in 1950, #ILWU broke off & kept electing Bridges until 1977.
