Happy Fathers Day! With warm memories of my dad, who taught me to love backpacking, to tolerate haying (in the photo below) and to be intolerant of injustice. Dads rock!

Aren't they amazing! 😀

I mention "haying" but didn't get into the careful way they package & prepare for storage. Little farmer bunnies.
... in rock crevices to serve as food caches during the long mountain winters, as they don't hibernate.

This behavior, called "haying" may be unique to pikas.

Their heat sensitivity poses a risk as climate change produces warmer & longer summers in the Rockies.

Prairie Blazing Star to the horizon on an old growth prairie on the edge of the KC metro. What a strong flowering response from a dormant season fire after 3 years of haying!

Hay is animal feed, cut in the leafy growth stage of grass. In the medieval period you had "hay meadows" that were not grazed but were reserved for haying. The first cut of hay in the late spring tends to be coarsest and weediest and lowest quality, reserved for meat ruminants.

Grateful, for my Pa who brought me a 1200 bale of alfalfa hay, today

My Hay Guy is at Fire Camp fighting fires for DNR and couldn’t deliver my Hay I already bought

He has to do that in the Summer as haying is quite expensive now with Diesel at $6.99 a gallon

Swainson's hawk is generally tolerant of people. The bird is attracted to haying, mowing, and plowing operations.

Sold off most of my old haying equipment to make way for a new mower. It arrived yesterday. Good thing I’m handy… Polish crates are stout!

Today reminds me of being at my grandparents’ farm and haying all day. Gramp was a taciturn sort but haying made him chatty. We’d be in the field all day, then drink a litre of pink lemonade, eat our body weight in fried chicken, sleep like logs, then do it again. It was the happiest time of my life
