Fall garden looks very different. Brochure says Dragon's Breath will get 32 inches high in optimal conditions. We must be super optimal because the plants are over three feet tall. Yard definitely needs haying.

Grateful, for my Pa who brought me a 1200 bale of alfalfa hay, today
My Hay Guy is at Fire Camp fighting fires for DNR and couldn’t deliver my Hay I already bought
He has to do that in the Summer as haying is quite expensive now with Diesel at $6.99 a gallon

The second or third cutting won't happen this year unless the place is irrigated. The first cutting was bad, we were in drought in Feb/Mar so the lush early spring grass never came. I normally make silage from that grass. I do not own haying equipment, dang that stuff is expensive.

After Tue's 🚿 chances, #YVR looking at a dry/warm spell thru the end of next wknd: perhaps longer. I guess this would be considered good harvest/haying weather in the ALR. However, climate models sustain a serious precip deficit thru month's end and into Oct under a persistent, warm, W flow.

Living in a rural farming/ranching community, I can see how they are going to struggle mightily with these diesel prices. Right now they're using the most diesel - for harvesting, haying, and trucking. It smarts. But they're also adept at taking subsidies if they're available. #ReapWhatYouSow

Happy labor day (USA). What's one of the oddest paid job you've had? Mine was probably as a reader for a medical professor at Rutgers, whose eyes were failing. I read him many academic texts, as well as Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh."
