Nice! I have seen hazlenuts on trees here I have never seen produce them before. Not sure why with the weather we have had really. When I was married we had beaked hazlenuts on our land, which I had never seen before.

A harse prune last year removed a lot of catkins which drive nut growth.
It's a very vigourous tree, unfortunately our hawthorn has died due to Fireblight, and the magnolia is shedding leaves at an alarming rate.

Cracking nuts is so satisfying ha (ripened a few foraged hazlenuts at home). Crushed them with pistachios and the last of my foraged walnuts from last autumn. They’ll make a nice healthy addition to my breakfast porridge

and you could roast your own hazlenuts but you still need to extract oils from them which needs a oil press i think
feel free to tell me how it went if you ever try it but im also down to try and help find cheaper sources of good quality syrup

There are apple and cherry trees, hazlenuts, blackberries and sloes, but 'something' usually gets there before we do!

We're going broke buying hazlenuts and almonds for the squirrels and a chipmunk. No pics but we have a similar number of squirrels. They *swarm* as soon as our kitchen light comes on. It's terrifying! Sometimes we leave the lights off to hide.😂

When I'm anxious about the ecomy sometimes I buy trees. On our property now we have two apples, a peach, two apricots, two hazlenuts, and a pecan.
Very fortunate to have this option, I know. And looking at these trees today is a reminder that some of my worry has been wasted before.

Walnuts, almonds, hazlenuts in cinnomon, ginger, salt, pepper, clove.
It can be adjusted w cashews, pistatios, or other spices, I've done an indian curry, or asian seweed mix as well!
Something about the light roast makea them irresistabley tasty.

My husband is a vegetarian and this is our third meat-free Thanksgiving. This year I'm making a rustic torte with lentils, honeyed ricotta, toasted hazlenuts, and rosemary-orange butternut squash. I'm putting a lot of effort into this and I hope it turns out.
