I was telling college students this week that the most important trend in Southern states to watch will be what older Black voters and HBCUs will do in a post-Callais world.
This is just beautiful to see

They’re gonna try sending fail-sons to HBCUs

It won’t surprise you to hear that in Albany and Fort Valley, Georgia, where there are HBCUs, the wait time to vote is ridiculous. No wait at all in white Atlanta suburbs.

“It would be self-defeating to allow HBCUs to deteriorate because of a lack of support.” -
@petebuttigieg.bsky.social answering a question on the lack of support provided to HBCU’s and their importance to our country.

and don't get me wrong, FUCK YEAH TO THOSE KIDS.

but everyone who was worried about military police at the polls needs to be *losing their fucking minds* over the fact that they shut down polling places at HBCUs and if you're not, what are you even doing

@thetnholler.bsky.social GOP actively targets HBCUs. Prairie View in TX sued before. The GOP will do anything to keep Black people from voting.
October 17, 2026 at 12:15 AM
Yep, NC Republicans love making it harder for students to vote, especially if they attend HBCUs.
October 17, 2026 at 2:12 AM
Let me just say, as a North Carolinian and neighbor of one of the biggest HBCUs in the country, taking voting precincts away from those locations has only galvanized the vote.

The students at those universities are not stupid and they know the game being played.

This is why John Lewis, Diane Nash and so many other fought about.

This is what moral courage looks like. #HBCUs
This is awesome.

If your vote didn’t matter Republicans wouldn’t be trying so hard to stop you.

F’ing travesty what the Elections board did. I think they ripped campus voting sites
for all HBCUs.

Alabama is home to the most HBCUs of any state. All 14 of those institutions will get their time to shine during the “Historically Black” exhibit displayed at the institute’s Odessa Woolfolk Gallery from Oct. 23 to Dec. 12.

Senator Warnock (D) secures funding for HBCUs.

Senator Cruz (R) cuts funding for HBCUs.

Leftists: Both parties are the same.

At least 12 campuses were said to be affected. Bet all were HBCUs or had a majority POC attendance.

Guilford county. Not Gulliver.

As of yesterday morning, Guilford county had the second highest first day early voter turnout out of all the NC counties. Thank you students of HBCUs!

3.01% of eligible voters cast ballots in NC on day 1.
Get out and vote!

Oh, actually — this is untrue. I have tickets to Delaware State - Norfolk State on Halloween. Two HBCUs coached by former Eagles players, playing in the Eagles’ stadium. Ludacris is playing the halftime show.

Faculty at HBCUs earned less, on average, than faculty at nearly every type of non-HBCU institution. Our union is working to change that.

During homecoming season, students competing for the titles of “Miss” and “Mister” are crowned at more than 90 HBCUs.

Several HBCU students shared what earning that title means to them. https://bit.ly/4BgWw1X
It’s More Than a Crown: What It Means to Be HBCU Royalty
Elections of kings and queens usually happen in the spring, but the fall homecoming season is when the celebrations really begin.

NC has many HBCUs. In many locales the county boards of elections have altered the locations of early voting sites. In some cases further away from universities in general. Young people are fired up. The state and county BOEs are now operating with a GOP majority.
