Very cool! #HeraMission is a #Martian moons mission as well as an #asteroid mission! (Although maybe those are the same thing, who knows?! 😛) #Planetsci
THIS IS SO EXCITING! The #HeraMission will use Mars gravity to be launched towards the #Didymos system. Ian Carnelli informed that in that maneuver will pass just 300 km from Deimos, just allowing unprecedent hyperspectral imagery of the #Mars satellite.
Here we go #Mars, and #Deimos! 🛰️🤩

Missed the #HeraMission #Mars flyby press conference earlier but the images are fantastic! #PlanetSci
What would Deimos look like to an astronaut in space around Mars? None of Hera's instruments are equivalent to the naked human eye, but here is the science team's first attempt. The 'saddle' between two peaks of Deimos shows up as a shadow

📽️Why does #HeraMission need autonomous surface feature tracking for self-driving, recently tested at🔴Mars? When Hera ventures closest to its target asteroid, it will have no other way of navigating: www.esa.int/Space_Safety...

A successful deep-space manoeuvre has put ESA’s Hera spacecraft on course for arrival at the Didymos binary asteroid system later this year!

At Didymos, Hera will help turn asteroid deflection into a reliable technique for protecting Earth 🛡️🌍

An asteroid killed the dinosaurs because they didn’t have a space agency – so ESA’s Hera asteroid mission has a dino mascot (also aboard the spacecraft in real life!).

But our dino needs a name – that’s where you come in!
