A valuable find, from @drkeithsmith.bsky.social .
Teghaza 001 preserves ancient Martian crust and traces of water.

A meteorite found in the Sahara desert is a 4.1 billion-year-old sample of Mars' crust, report Liu et al. in @science.org.

Teghaza 001 is geochemically distinct from other Martian meteorites and records ancient reactions with liquid water.

I wonder what this means for the upcoming New Frontiers and the rest of future #planetaryscience missions. The goal is to explore other worlds, but first you need some way to get there. That may be getting harder as SpaceX pulls away from non-Starlink launches.

Analysts find looming launch crisis is "more severe" than anticipated
There's no evidence that Starship will launch traditional satellites, either.

🌋November’s Planetary Geomorphology Image of the Month is here!

Can boiling water build mud volcanoes on Mars? With experiments under Martian-like pressure, Dr. Ondřej Krýza explores how boiling water can drive sedimentary eruptions despite rapid cooling and freezing! 🌋💦🔍

What If Earth Had Two Suns?

No true night. Two shadows. Chaotic orbits. Tatooine looks romantic in the films — the physics would cook the planet.

Meet Teghaza 001, a rare 800‑gram pink Martian meteorite that fell to Earth in 2022. At 4.1 billion years old, it outdates most Earth rocks and reveals Mars was wet early on. Learn how its mineral structure shows liquid water interacted over 4 billion years ago and how NASA narrowed its origin to 13 source regions. 🚀 Subscribe for more cosmic wonders! New ice clouds on Arsia Mons reveal dustfree crystal formation on Mars! #Mars #ArsiaMons #IceClouds #Science #Space #Discovery #PlanetaryScience #Astro
Video
Scientists discovered a remarkable phenomenon on Mars's Arsia Mons volcano — massive water ice clouds each spring, featuring a completely new type of homogeneous ice nucleation. Water vapor directly forms crystals without dust particles in ultra-light structures in near-vacuum conditions. This groundbreaking discovery sheds light on extreme physics and Martian climate dynamics. Nature is truly magnificent. The national academies came out with recommendations for non-polar sites for astronauts, and they recommended one of my favorite projects, a lunar gravitational wave observatory. They said in Orientale Basin, but it could go anywhere. 🧪🛰️ #PlanetaryScience

Key Non-Polar Destinations Across the Moon to Address Decadal-level Science Objectives with Human Explorers
Humanity is returning to the Moon. These new footsteps in the lunar dust will inspire generations of people across Earth and herald a new era of discovery that could help unravel some of the deepest mysteries of the Moon, Earth, and the Universe. At the request of NASA, Human Exploration Across the Moon identifies high-value science destinations for short-duration human missions beyond the lunar poles. This report charts a path toward broader exploration, presenting four non-polar destinations where human explorers could pursue distinct and complementary science objectives across a range of disciplines: Bhabha Crater, Mons Hadley, Orientale Basin, and Aristarchus Plateau.
