As I'm a bit of a herpetological geek, "Anxious Axolotl" (@meliaveli.bsky.social) definitely wins favorite new follower of the day (and a reciprocal follow).
(Axolotl's are very cool--they are neotenic!)

Woke up early to read the new @tkingfisher.com and found a line that recalled my daughter's passionate herpetological phase. I remember other adults looking at me like "please help?" and I'd respond with a look that said "I talked with your son for 20 minutes about trucks last week."

I found this video after my husband stepped on the rattlesnake and there are 100 reasons to watch it, not least because this scientist made a fake leg and foot to see what rattlers do when people step on them.

Spoiler alert: they rarely strike.

Are you going to the XVII Mexican Herpetological Meeting?

Long ago, a paper out of UC Berkeley showed that Atrazine can lead to feminization in frogs. This led to Alex Jones claiming it’s “turning the fricken frogs gay”. This turned into a massive meme. Kannon says that herpetological research influenced queer meme culture. Hell yeah.

NOLA is gonna be real icthyological and herpetological this July! 🐟🐠🦈🐸🦎🐍🐢🐊
I’m giving a public talk in New Orleans- I’m the shark on this flier. Three scientists in town for the Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists will give a talk about their research, and then a local improv comedy troupe will create and perform a sketch! Should be fun.

These changes were opposed by groups such as An Taisce, Birdwatch Ireland, The Irish Wildlife Trust, Hedge Laying Association of Ireland, and The Herpetological Society of Ireland. She proceeded with the bill despite the public consultation being largely against the changes. #Spéirgorm 2/n

You have my herpetological hook, then!

Hahaha, I love this photo of a snake nerd researcher from the Phoenix Herpetological Society using a fake leg to step on rattlesnakes & see how likely they are to bite. He "stepped" on 175 of them, and was bitten by only SIX. Snakes desperately want to just get away! 🐍🧪

... *I* would have been deeply fascinated and asked about it, but I also probably would have had to ask how that could relate to a non-herpetological problem you might face in the job or workplace...

The Phoenix herpetological society is filled with deadly snakes rescues that killed their owner and it’s fun doing a tour because they’ll tell you the story behind how they acquired each snake and its full of stories of dudes like that 🙂

I had some really lovely dreams about catching snakes last night and taking them to the herpetological society. I love reptiles.

one saw a lizard and was SO EXCITED about it, my herpetological agenda is working exactly as planned 😈

🐸Does anyone happen to know the max. size of the Dhofar toad (Firouzophrynus dhufarensis)?

I have checked several shelves worth of herpetological books and I have scoured the net - both in vain.

One time I went to a presentation at the herpetological society where they used vore fetish art of Kaa from The Jungle Book on one of the slides. I'd rather see that then this.

BEWARE BOIÚNA is what you'd get if Tobe Hooper, in his prime, directed the original ANACONDA.

It's nasty, it's brutal, and it's destined to be called "underrated" because that's what happens when a vicious monster flick gets dismissive reviews when it first comes out.

My review, at @thewrap.com!

Jessica Rothe and Kiana Madeira star in Mike P. Nelon's horrifying herpetological nightmare fuel about a gigantic killer Amazon snake god.

🔊What does the herp say?

The first ever record of vocalisation in viviparous lizards is described in The Herpetological Bulletin: www.thebhs.org/publications... - and by my student Johnnie Johnson, no less!

FYI, the sound is a "brief chirp".
