Ooh thanks! I opted for week in July running through just the HNOC, City Archives, and TUSC instead. So those might be enough to be… something. But I might take you up on this if it turns out museum files (if they even actually exist, which was part of trying to talk to anyone there) seem necessary.

Online exhibit from Historic New Orleans Collection. This is from 1851. Louisiana's GOP today wants to reboot the past, focussing on denied voting rights.

I understand, just didn’t want to conflate the actions of civil war generals on either side with post Civil War reconstruction issues that happened. It was a tumultuous time and the Federal government at one point 12+ years later felt it had to step in to quell unrest.

Love a more intimate museum experience! Off the top of my head: the Kafka Museum in Prague, the Historic New Orleans Collection (it’s free!), Museum of Us in San Diego, Museum of Glass in Tacoma.

Kafka is so evocative—immersion before it was trendy. HNOC made NOLA’s development make sense to me.

I hear the pope does not “identify” as black. But a lot of times that is not up to the individual to say. Or the family. Often times it’s up to history.

An early photograph of Esplanade Avenue circa 1858 by Jay Dearborn Edwards (HNOC). How convenient to have a corner grocery store in the neighborhood that also served as the Depot of Leeches. (continued)
