I just backed a kickstarter project (defender’s of the dictionary) and I figure that’s technically still ok as I wont technically be getting the game this year.

Well I have come to the decision that I need to pause my board game purchases for a while - to give me a chance to play the games I own and restore a bit of sanctity to the process of buying and owning new board games.
My aim is to not buy any new board games for the remainder of 2026.

I'm not in NY but I have found I like shopping local. So many local, hobbiest, growers, bakers, artist. I value my items more. I like the smaller shops over mass chains too.

They just went out and bought a hobbiest community tool just to capitalize and profit off of it. Literally the only way they make money from it is people using it. We just gotta stop using it.

Hmm. I was thinking of it in light of Loish's video on AI accusations and after having had some of my work flagged as AI on iNat. So I don't know how widespread the demand for proof is, but it's widespread enough to hit big names who make art for a living and hobbiest relative nobodies like me.

i am looking for a set of sifters like this in multiple sizes of both bowls and mesh with either ribbed handles or handles that i can carve ribbing into. i could just buy the glass version but a lot of glass fusing tools are actually made for other things and marked up 3x for the hobbiest market

I think there's something here about management. For them the deadly machine is a fun project they've taken on voluntarily, vs the average employee who is just trying to put a roof over their heads by selling their labor cheap under Capitalism. The grind comes from the hobbiest, not the worker.

I suspect we're gonna see the hobbiest side go open weights on the consumer graphics card they got for gaming even more than they are already as the AI companies raise prices; it's in the general category of stuff you could always have paid a freelancer to do if you cared enough.
