#hornists
Decided I needed to add crossbowmen to my medievals, and Ecorcheurs uses standard bearers and hornists. The Perry plastics really do make up into pretty natural looking poses. #Ecorcheurs

Trombonists take a lot of flak, but it’s the French Hornists you really have to watch out for.
Ah yes the master race

#A-Haydn-A-Day Day 14: Symphony No. 35!

Haydn won't keep the doctor away today if you're a horn player, as B-flat is the heart attack key for Haydn hornists. The rest of us can just enjoy it as we hear them hit (or not) the high notes. Luckily Antonini's horns have nerves of steel 📯📯

During this interview I made a point of mentioning all hornists that contributed to The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s but I was edited. Therefore, bells up 📯 & 🙌 for all 5 players that enhance this classic music: Alan Civil, Tony Randall, Jim Buck Snr, Neil Sanders & John Burden

by the way, if you've never read the story of how they came up with the FOX NFL theme, read this. It's absolutely wild, especially this pre-cell phone/internet world tidbit. deadspin.com/batman-on-st...

Scoring horns in bass clef can be helpful to hornists, if the orchestrator uses new notation, avoids ledger lines above, doubly proofreads parts if the full score is in concert pitch, & remember that players easily read ledger lines below the treble staff down to E and even D.

To me that sounds wonderful. Apparently to you too.

Probably to the hornists as well.

people were legit losing their minds at the idea of gay marriage being legalized. it was still a debate in 2012 when romney was running; i was in a mormon orchestra and the other french hornists were talking about how they hoped romney repealed gay marriage when he became president

57th International Horn Symposium📯📯 (06/24-06/28)

What a treat to meet so many talented hornists from all over the world. 🌎

A giant thank you to my mentor Paul Basler for letting me help him for his presentation and for always inspiring me to refine my artistic vision.

Leave it to the hornists to decide that the answer is always more tubing. (Pay no attention to the various valves on the trombone or the compensating system on euphonium.)

Best wishes to him! My kid was also looking to Oberlin before early decision made other options moot. They’ve played with a couple hornists from there and it seems like a great environment.

The "hunting" movement No. 26 is also a riot, it's basically authentic Central European horn calls on natural horns (and luckily most hornists realize this nowadays and let 'em rip) + bassoons imitating dogs + timpani gunshots accompanying the choir.

Mvt 3: Our attention on the horns may distract from the fact that, again, the string parts are very fine. Still, I bet the hornists feel a moment of panic when the high notes and arpeggios approach.

if you're trying to get high school french hornists – the repository of people who didn't have the ego or wherewithal to cut it on trumpet – to play Mannheim Steamroller Christmas stuff you're already behind the 8-ball.
December 26, 2024 at 3:30 PM
yeah this is one of those things which makes me put on my bossy diva composer hat. i will do what i do - never anything unreasonable of course - and you will play it properly. if your hornists still "specialize" in high or low playing then sort out the parts as you must. not my business....
