my hot take is that cities are pretty, rural areas, untouched areas are pretty. what's ugly is suburbs. neither quite as humancentric, albeit man made, as cities are, nor as in tune with nature and animals as rural areas. a place for no one but cars.

Gygax wasn't particularly creative when it came to world building and copied heavily from Tolkien, Vance, and a few others, smashed it together and called it a day. His vision of D&D was humancentric and the idea that people might want to play other races was alien to him.

I love that my game's lore structure allows me to put a direct statement of artistic intent in the text. This is what protecting the sacred means in my TTRPG. This is what the game is about, protecting those things that support life.
