The Stnky Toe Fruit Tree (Hymenaea courbaril) got torn up in Hurricane Lowell. The cacao that has been growing in its shade for years is now getting a lot more sunshine. The red leafs are all new growth. (Yes, the fruit does smell like stinky toes.)

#HurricaneFatigue is what #Hawaii is currently experiencing from the battering of #HurricaneLowell 🌀, (early September 2026 ), and now #HurricaneNolo 🌀 to end the month.

The Aloha 🌺 State 🌋is actively monitoring the latter as it passes south of the #BigIsland soon.

May it avoid us completely!✨

My freezer remains empty from #HurricaneLowell except for ice cubes…I’m testing if freezing apple pie slices works. (Wrap them in plastic wrap then insert into a plastic bag.) They are the only food item in there. Dutch Apple Pie, anyone? Sorry, no vanilla a la mode ice cream available yet.

If #HurricaneLowell had taken me out I would have been ok with that ending. It’s a good story in so many ways.

However, fate has kept me here to share more geek/nerd data. I will now write a TY letter to the person who first showed me how the internet worked. A ✉️because nothing is private now.

#HurricaneLowell 🌀storm left streaky dirt on the kitchen glass Hawaiian-louvered windows. The window has a covered deck in front of it and you can see the blue blur of the ocean and sky behind it. It still made it *that dirty*. More work. Those windows are strong. #Hawaii

🌀 HURRICANE: Hurricane Lowell hit Hawaii, killing 2. Lanai's only cargo port knocked out — main food/fuel supply for 3,300 residents. Worst storm since 1992's Iniki. Gov. Green requested federal disaster declaration. #HurricaneLowell https://dailytoolbox.org

This #Hawaiian Sea Eel washed ashore because of #HurricaneLowell and left its body behind in a most dramatic pose that almost simulates impalement. It was not the only eel to meet this fate either. Later down the beach a couple from Tennessee saw a different one and remarked on it to me.
