On our travels in the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, we stopped at an idyllic village called Hutton-Le-Hole to rest and recharge.

The interior of this fine cruck-built house reflects a building tradition that was already somewhat old-fashioned when it was constructed around 1550. Its great curved oak timbers form a striking structural frame, characteristic of an earlier style of vernacular architecture. During the mid-17th century, the building was modernised, with a first floor added at one end to create a bedroom. This later alteration has been carefully incorporated into the reconstruction at Ryedale Folk Museum, allowing visitors to see how the house evolved as the needs and expectations of its occupants changed over time.
