Ok so one no doubt extremely expensive trip to the ER for scans and tests later it is not a pulmonary embolism/blood clot in my lung. It’s still some mystery respiratory disease I’ve been dealing with for over a month. Time for a buttload more steroids I guess

Sensory hypersensitivity - where the brain processes everyday stimuli more intensely - is an often-overlooked and profoundly debilitating symptom reported by people with ME/CFS.
ME/CFS research highlights:
• Increased sympathetic nervous system activity increases sensory intake whilst reduced cerebral blood flow restricts brain's processing capacity.
• Reduction in a specific brain signal related to higher-level attention/information filtering.
• Amplification of pain signals by central nervous system.
Although the studies have limitations, they are a starting point for further research.

Perhaps out of all symptoms relating to ME/CFS, the PEM/PESE, loss of adaptability, and hypersensitivity, are the most crippling. Compared to when I was mildly or moderately affected, those symptoms stand out as becoming orders of magnitude worse. Fatigue and pain did not worsen as much as that.
