I miss LiveJournal, iTunes, HyperStudio, and KidPix.
i don't want to hear your most boomer complaint. what's your most millennial complaint?

Not sure how to explain to kids these days that computers used to be incredibly fun.

There’s somehow nothing very similar to HyperStudio or KidPix.

Today’s pickup: a bunch of Apple II and IIGS software and stuff from a kind gentleman clearing out his basement. Flight Sim II, The Hobbit, HyperStudio, Flashboot, Timeout Telecomm, Publish-it, Pointless, and a bunch of other loose disks. Plus some GS documentation I didn’t have… most still wrapped.

In 8th grade I had a class called Internet where we worked on HyperStudio stacks and kept a notebook with handwritten web addresses
How old are you in Internet years without telling us your age?

Star Trek TNG on the Apple IIgs! 💾

This HyperStudio (think HyperCard) stack from 1991 was distributed as shareware and created by Scott Everts.
It covers the first 4 seasons of the show. Check it out and boldly go where no fan has gone... since 1991!

This would be so cool.

My first gamedev experience was a Hyperstudio point-and-click based on Lloyd Alexander’s The Castle of Llyr when I was ~10 years old.
If I had talent, time and taste, I would love to build a HyperCard for telling 3D stories.

Alas, my skills are better suited to build vt100 emulators.
SO excited about this session: @patrickmullen.bsky.social, Rose Thomas, and I will be @sxsw.com on March 11 at 10am CT to share some best practices for creating interactive stories on Apple Vision Pro!

Hope to see folks there 🎉

Here's the article I wrote on how I put together Acorn User's December 1997 cover CD, which used Hyperstudio to create a multimedia interface for Acorn, Mac and PC.

Had just as many issues with this, as with the 200th edition CD, all a bit of a dog's dinner!

I've just kind of always done it. Started with Hypercard, then HyperStudio, then Director, then modding doom quake and halflife, then Flash, then making multiplayer levels in CryEngine, then Unity...

It's just something I do.

I want a "HyperCard 2.3 plus Color drawing tools" for my kid to play with.

Basically just draw colorful cards and link between them to make an kid adventure game.

From what I've seen, SuperCard and HyperStudio both pivoted to "more advanced HyperCard for people who outgrew it" to handle things […]

I've had backups of a hyperstudio "game" i made in 1997 for forever but havent been able to open them. The other night I had claude fix the files so I could open them in a macOS9 emulator and I was not prepared for the level of peak 13yr old nerd I was about to witness.

Before the widespread use of the internet, before licensed books on the topic, #StarTrek fans were rolling their own guide to The Next Generation - and making it look like the Enterprise-D's computer interface on the Apple IIgs. #retrocomputing #RetroGaming www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDKA...

I used to teach pre-service teachers and in the late 1990s a movement to replace the essay with a Hypercard/Hyperstudio stack was a very real thing.

This sounds like a retro computer that boots into, instead of Basic, a clone of Hypercard/Hyperstudio.

Which honestly would be awesome.

(The one I have on one of my many back burners is planned to boot into Forth...)

At my school, we had a program called HyperStudio that I used to make adventure games until I taught myself Flash and ActionScript (which I didn't love). In college, I started using Multimedia Fusion for the same reason; visual scripting has always made more sense to me.
