#hyphenation
(This is tangential, but this makes me want to review my hyphenation rules)

So the official hyphenation breakpoint for motorhome is mo-torhome? Are you kidding me? #booksky

I love PerfectIt, but I think it should be like "first of all, here's all the inconsistent hyphenation and capitalization you *didn't* miss, great job."

Common publishing mistake #50: a book language left on the template default.

E-readers can use it for hyphenation, the dictionary and text-to-speech. A German novel tagged as English reads oddly.

Checked yours?

The hyphenation more times than not result from a lady not wanting to give up her family name. Strange one in South Carolina politics , where darling Darline now wants to be a Graham because of political convenience, but is truly stuck with her marriage name of Nordone.

Hyphens and tracking, I strongly prefer placing my own hyphens in a book's text rather than using the automatic hyphenation. It's worth it, it makes the finished manuscript look very clean, but it's a lot of poking around.

Hyphenation. How does it work?
Every rally he goes to he talks about the candidate’s ass, so she probably wanted to get out of there quick before he began his evaluation.

I see, that's a ton of work of course... Do you put them in as soft hyphens in the manuscript, or fix them line by line at the end? I’m trying to work out how the formatting software I'm building should let authors overrule their own hyphenation.

Kindle app has no way to cancel hyphenation. What a shame for being the biggest book database app.

This mismatch between the logical and physical structure (which is also the same issue with hyphenation / line-breaks) will be a point of discussion in my next class :-)

Also it's complicated how English has no problems with nouns with spaces in them especially in British English (in American they jump to hyphenation it seems to resolve this but who cares) so for me I see correlation (co relation) as no more or less worthy of lexicalisation as piece of cake

Learning about hyphenation via DC Comics — AP knows the way to my heart
Hyphenate a movie rating when it modifies the noun or follows a linking verb. An R-rated movie has an R rating. The movie is R-rated. “Clayface” brings horror to an R-rated superhero release.

Bower for باورة makes sense but I think proa and English prow as well as French proue are all related

Reading a novel by Terry Pratchett, published by Doubleday. Widows and orphans galore. Very little hyphenation, so the tracking is just hellacious. Are there no publication standards at all these days? A solo line at the bottom of a page, okay, but look at this fragment at the top! #writing #BookSky

what’s extra funny about this is that if you read anything - like ANYTHING - from interwar independent Poland, everyone says “Poles *and* Jews.” As in, “both Poles and Jews attended the protest.” Poles say it, Jews say it the same way. No one says that Jews “are” Poles; no hyphenation American-style
There’s no such thing as “biological Polishness,” and it’s actually bad that some left-wing anti-Zionists have talked themselves into “blood and soil nationalism, but leftishly.” You really can oppose the existence of the state of Israel in its current form without this nonsense.
I RESPECT your point—BUT it doesn't matter what racists call you—biologically & legally, they're Polish & Russian. I REFUSE to entertain fake distinction between anti-Zionism & antisemitism ANYMORE, especially since 'antisemitism' has been completely weaponized to shield genocide. Name the truth!

A solo line at the bottom you can forgive, but a fragment stranded at the top of the page really does stop you mid-read. And with so little hyphenation, the spacing has nowhere to go!

Once you start noticing widows and orphans, it's very hard to stop seeing them.
