Hidden by the bright star Gamma Cassiopeiae are the reflection nebula IC59 (left) and emission nebula IC63 (center). This 9 hr image shows they are connected and IC59 also has emission. Astronauts used Gamma Cass for navigation. Gus Grissom called it Navi, his middle name backwards #astrophotography

I’ve been chasing the Ghosts of Cassiopeia (IC59 and IC63) for three years now.
They’re a particularly difficult subject because of the faint background nebulosity, blurred by the intense glare of 𝛄 Cassiopeiae, the star from the homonymous constellation lighting up both nebulae.

I’ve been chasing the Ghosts of Cassiopeia (IC59 and IC63) for three years now.
They’re a particularly difficult subject because of the faint background nebulosity, blurred by the intense glare of 𝛄 Cassiopeiae, the star from the homonymous constellation lighting up both nebulae.

Another quick repair! Bubble Bobble is one bootleg I'll repair, because the real one is so expensive. Graphics were all squished to one. Some missing signals led me to a 74LS377 (IC59). Piggybacking brought the screen back, glitchy though. Removed the 377, it tested bad, and replaced!

The V shaped nebula in the center is IC 63.

Sh 2-185 is a cloud of ionized hydrogen about 10,000 light years away in Casseiopeia. One of the two nebulae (the red one) is called the Ghost of Casseiopeia. The bluer one is IC59.🧪

It’s called IC59 or alternatively Ghost of Cassiopeia. The red part is a gas cloud (aka nebula) being lit up by radiation from the bright star. It was just nice to get a picture after weeks of clouds.
