1) Straight flightlines may not actually be straight flightlines.
2) Ringing site coverage/ effort levels may differ.

Several of these flies were seen today resting on the flowers of Wood Anemone in ancient woodland near Icklesham.

Here's All Saints and St Nicolas Church in Icklesham, grade 1 listed, dating back to the Normans & most likely Saxons, it was mentioned in King Offa's Charter of 772

I had relatives in Icklesham and Rye and my old man worked on farms in East Sussex and Kent. It’s pretty amazing how nice that bit of England is if you just avoid the bigger towns.

We have ringed hundreds of Sand Martins this autumn and have caught four with rings on from elsewhere. Three of our birds were caught at Icklesham the night after their capture at Dungeness.
Each coloured line shows a Sand Martin, and the details of the controls are as follows:

At this time of year juvenile Mallards, Anas platyrhynchos, flock together. The last Mallard in this flock has a limp ☹️ but when he got into the pond yesterday he could swim better than he could walk. Upper Pannell Valley between Icklesham & Pett Level. East Sussex. #birds 🪶

Itchenor (they have the tiniest ferry).
Itchingfield (they have a tiny priest house).
Icklesham (they have a not so tiny windmill / recording studio).
Ifield (a brilliant Indian restaurant)
Iping (good walks).
Isfield...Lavender Line

Nice to see this mention of Community Land Trusts by Helena Dollimore MP in a debate on rural affordable housing. As she says - and as over 100 rural CLTs are showing - if a village the size of Icklesham can do it, anywhere can deliver social housing this way.
