Fukushima University students have launched an internet radio program featuring Iitate, a village striving to restore itself after the meltdowns at the nearby Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant in 2011.
University students launch community radio show for Fukushima village
The program aims to spread word about the realities faced by Iitate's aging population, and support the village's revitalization.

It would be sheer arrogance to claim that a failure of risk assessment could not happen in Australia. Fukushima should be central to any debate on #nuclear power. #auspol
Nuclear power: Fukushima’s lessons for Australia
In November 2011, eight months after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster, I travelled with Japanese colleagues to Iitate, a village some 50 kilometres from the stricken power plant._

thinking today of Fukushima: my first home as an adult out of university

a place that made room for me while still healing its wounds

a place that has fought, and continues to fight, to be recognized as more than its tragedy

still very near and dear to me—I wish everyone there everything good

assistindo sobre o desastre nuclear de Fukushima, me lembrou o episódio do Mistérios Sem Solução sobre as assombrações que surgiram tempos depois após o tsunami

"The correct answer to the question about the number of Fukushima (& Chernobyl)-related deaths is: “we will never know”. The science which can design extremely complex nuclear reactors has not yet developed the skills to produce any clear answer to the question"

Went to Iitate, Fukushima to tour one of our project areas, took radiation measurements and its incredible how little radiation the is.

From +60uSv/h in some areas to 0.1 in most in 13 years!!!

Finally getting to work in Fukushima with the prof I've wanted to work with for years 🥲

Probably the happiest I've been since moving to Japan. Definitely a dream come true!

Fukushima author, self-pubbed

The author lived in Iitate Village. He later died of blood cancer.

Fukushima radiation detector

This one is in Iitate Village.
This used to be "Exclusion Zone" but has been cleaned up and reopened to people.

It's at a much lower number now than in 2011.
Now it's like .2 microsieverts.
In 2011 (after meltdowns) about 8 milisieverts. (approx)

6. This farmer is not saying "Evacuations were not necessary."
He is saying the opposite. "We were told it was okay (in our home town of Iitate, but it wasn't okay." I am paraphrasing.

I read a book by a farmer from Iitate. Self-pubbed memoir. As I was reading, I looked him up. He died of cancer.

7. "It gets difficult here for people who don't pay attn to understand."

I phrased that badly.

I meant, "This part about Iitate Town is difficult for you to understand. Unless you follow the situation in Fukushima very, VERY closely."

5. It gets difficult here for people who don't pay attn to understand.

This farmer is from Iitate. That was a town that was designated as safe. And was not initially in the Exclusion Zone. Except it wasn't safe. The radiation went northwest and dumped on this town, so extremely high levels.
