I grew this magnificent Eucalyptus erythrocorys (Illyarrie) from seed. It has turned into the most magnificent small tree. I love it, as do the birds.

This small eucalyptus has large yellow gum blossoms and buds with bright red caps that sit atop stems with sickle-shaped leaves.

(Illyarrie, Eucalyptus erythrocorys)
An explosion of red and yellow, the illyarrie trees in Perth are bursting with colour as they bloom in late summer. The bright yellow fringey-flower stamens have four bundles, and before the buds burst they are covered in a bright red operculum (cap). Here are two flowers pictures next to two unopened buds, against the dark green foliage and a powder blue Perth sky.

#Eucalyptus leucoxylon - champion performer. I'd add E. erythrocorys (illyarrie) as another tough star performer, which has spectacular flowers almost year round.

40C here today, and the AC has died. Again. Annual event. The late summer flowers are out on the trees to welcome Autumn. All the local Marris, Red Flowering Gums and even this Illyarrie at the local shopping centre are putting on a show. Roll on Autumn and the next wave of flowers.
A bad picture of the flowers on an Illyarrie (Eucalyptus erythrocorys). The flowers on these lower branches were a bit high up so I had to hold the phone over my head and hope for the best. These are another Western Australian native tree from the sand plain country north of Perth. You can see them along the road driving the Geraldton. The red caps are unopened flower buds. The caps are popped off by the opening flower and litter the ground under the tree. Good garden and street trees as they are quite compact and thrive on neglect. Put them in our poor sandy soil and water the seedlings for their first year then sit back and enjoy. Easy to get at specialist native plant nurseries. PS collecting native plants, their seeds or flowers from the wild is illegal. You need a licence to do it. There are specialist nurseries where you can go to buy plants and seeds. That is all!!

Nice pic, but not E erythrocorys (Ilyarrie). The flower caps on Illyarrie are brighter red and a weird 'X' shape. Sorry, I have no suggestion for what the tree is in your photo.

I had both!
The illyarrie is a more substantial tree. The Caesia has a lot of grey wood, but spectacular flowers.

It has smooth bark, sickle-shaped to curved adult leaves, characteristically large flower buds in groups of three with a bright red operculum, bright yellow to yellowish green flowers and sculptured, bell-shaped fruit.

Bit of a re- post. The autumn trees like the Marri and this Illyarrie have declared summer to be over. The east winds confirm it. I re- posted because the Illyarrie was not looking its best the other day. Now she is in full bloom, as are her sisters around the area.
One of the many Illyarrie trees Eucalyptus erythrocorys) around our neighbourhood. These are native to Western Australia but not the Perth area. A popular garden and street tree. Compact and needing no extra water once they are established. The have these masses of yellow blossoms and bright red flower caps. They're a treat to see in the bush. Detail of the flowers and the red caps of the unopened buds. Have to be careful of all the bees harvesting the nectar. Also lorikeets doing the same but they would fly off when I got close. Unopened Illyarrie flowers. The red caps pop off and drop to the ground under the tree. They are fairly big and very hard. Stepping on one in bare feet rivals walking on a Lego brick. This is a different tree at the same place. It's another compact, pretty tree with this lovely bark. Its called ' Gungurru', Eucalyptus caesia, and the branches and some of the leaves are dusted with a silver grey 'powder'. The common name is a Silver Princess. These are not in flower at the moment. They have a small, pinkish grey flower but are notable for their graceful weeping form. Could not get a good overall picture of this one. I'll post a picture when I get a goodie. Note that there are two forms of E caesia. One weeps and one is more upright.
