Lloyd Alexander? The Chronicles of Prydain is his famous series and it's very good, but I think she might love the Vesper Holly books (start with the Illyrian Adventure). Historical sans romance. Not especially science fictiony, but if she likes them then maybe she'll give Prydain a try.

"At ease," said Archer. "I've just been informed that the Illyrian warp coil has been installed. I know you all have thoughts about this, but we can't forget what's at stake: the lives of the entire human race and our home world."

"Hear hear," said someone in the back.

Vincent Gelcich, president of the Slavonic Illyrian Mutual and Benevolent Society in 1860, was a physician who served as a surgeon and colonel in the Union Army during the Civil War. This society, which helped immigrants survive in the new land, is still in existence today

Is it just going on be like this all time here from now on? Someone starting a discourse about gender every weekend and my urge to water cabbage in Illyrian countryside increasing exponentially?

What a coincidence that Gwyn just happens to have a BLUE stone that she describes as being similar to Illyrian syphons.

I do wonder though if maybe Rhys’ father was the sire of all three of them. Maybe Cassian just resembles his mother more? Why else are these two the most powerful illyrian warriors ever? We still haven’t figured that out either.
Maybe she’s been telling us all along

Rhys himself says he and Azriel are more similar than most would ever realize soooo maybe? That could explain Azriel’s shadows.

I saw a theory that Rhys and Azriel could be half brothers? They definitely look more alike than either does to Cassian so I could maybe buy it.

The Albanian rain deity Shurdhi might reflect a survival of the Illyrian ‘pallid/cloudy one’ across the Adriatic Sea in the Balkans if Shurdhi originally meant something like ‘celestial/heavenly Huorġźös’ with an Alb. prefix sh- meaning ‘of the sky’ also found in several bird names #dennydoeswords
#dennydoeswords “ork”, “orc”, and “ogre”, words referring to legendary humanlike monsters

< Latin Orc(h)us ‘god of the underworld’, or the underworld itself, or one of its dead denizens

Some new Battlemechs painted up. Most of the Illyrian Lancer mechs went to my merc group’s veteran free worlders while the Kontio is going to the Bears. Got the Hammerhead from the starter box being painted as a Falcon but not sure where to put the lancer Ostroc

today?

The Ward-Domar-Vanek economic model predicted/explained that the Illyrian Firm tended to maximize for income per worker. This meant hiring was disincentivized as hiring would decrease the incomes of each worker. Firms also got into a lot of debt and there were serious soft-budget

That's a good subject to bring up. The issue with the Yugoslavian business model (we can call it the Illyrian Firm, after Benjamin Ward's works) is that there was no equity ownership by labor. The country had implemented a "social ownership" system whereby workers held usufruct rights over firms.

I think Latin also has a lot of Illyricisms from Apulian/Messapic but people might not be ready for that convo yet. E.G my reconstructed Illyrian ancestor of Alb thakën ‘rye’ < thak ‘awn’ is, except for the suffix, very reminiscent of Latin sēcale ‘rye’, which otherwise has no etymology
