Was feeling bummed out that there’s no cute portmanteau for being Ashkenazi, Serbian, and Croatian and then I remembered I can just say I’m Jewgoslavian

And you still see the PIE etymology in Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian since 'crv' still means 'worm'.

I'm half Croatian/Serbian and I still don't get read as generic white by most people

Stabbing someone over referring to Croatian as Serbian, languages that are about as distinct when spoken as British and American English.

TIL: Croatian is an even better "language is a dialect with an army" exemplar than I thought. Not only are Croatian and Serbian barely differentiated, but North vs South Croatian dialects aren't always mutually intelligible!
(South = Italian superstructure, North = German)
If you’re not in Split for Neuromonster I’m sorry. Your mistake

Always half something are the most radical something
To prove they are something
In Croatia half croatian, half Serbian were either radical Croatian or radical Serbian
Same in Serbia
They have to proof themselves

As a Serbian-Croatian Jew born in Israel this is very funny

To get super into being Serbian creates tension with my Croatian and Jewish elements; to get super into being Croatian creates tension with my Serbian and Jewish elements; to romanticize the shtetls my grandparents grew up in is to gloss over their pain and trauma and constant desire to escape.

I see people are trying to say this is anti-Zionist not antisemitic and as a Jew who is also Serbian and Croatian I would ask you to explain why Zionism — aka Jewish ethnonationalism — is a bigger geopolitical fuck up than Croatian or Serbia ethnonationalism without doing an antisemitism

As an American of Serbian and Croatian heritage I feel perfectly positioned to heal this ancient enmity, I mean at least until they find out I'm Jewish
Apparently at Eurovision Croatia gave Serbia 12 points and Serbia gave Croatia 0 points and I am kind of dying over this

A day at the beach? Nah, a day at the Bunkers. More Italian defences and a T-55 from the 1991 Croatian defence of Zadar against Serbian forces.

Someone else says Serbian and Croatian are basically the same language and it immediately starts a bar fight.
Sitting in a cocktail bar between the guy arguing with the bartender that “Scotch” and “Scotch whiskey” are different and the guy telling his Indian date that chicken tikka masala and chicken Marsala are the same.
