She argues that he was very influenced in particular by the liberal Anglican theologian and churchman Charles Gore. This comes through in his rejection of inerrancy and fundamentalism.

Yes. On the next page 👇

“Inerrancy may not have been able to grant evangelicals the unadulterated interpretive and epistemic certainty its proponents desired, but in the end, it gave them something just as powerful. It gave them a weapon.”

That last sentence…

“Now, forty years later, we might be forgiven for asking, What if we do not come to the same conclusion? What if our interpretation differs from that of these 250 predominately white, American men?”

I was thinking the other day that a more talmudic tradition of commentary on the text throughout the millennia would have a better result than biblical inerrancy + storefront evangelicalism

I've seen people distinguishing between Christians and Christian nationalists. I don't

Christianity is a war/blood cult. If you believe in the inerrancy of the Bible you can justify the most atrocious behavior in the "Name of the Lord."

All Christians believe some of the myths else why bother?

Inerrancy of the Bible except for how bats are birds? Inerrancy of the Bible except for if Joseph isn't Jesus' dad why does his pedigree go on for pages? Can't even keep the timeline of the crucifixion straight and I could just keep on going...

They do believe in the inerrancy of the Bible though and I have a very long list of why that is a bad idea

So I would argue accepting textual criticism and science like Evolution does not actually threaten a belief in a monotheistic God whatsoever what it does threaten is crazy fringe beliefs like the inerrancy of the Bible which is just patently ridiculous nonsense.

Reading @kkdumez.bsky.social's new book something clicked for me about my first spiritual formation. I long knew about the roles of dispensationalism and inerrancy, but Live Laugh Love revealed a third missing piece...

It's biblical inerrancy for libs with Poster's Madness
September 13, 2026 at 11:49 PM
Christians have known it’s mythical for a long time. Only recently did they start calling for its inerrancy.

You can leave fundamentalism and still hold onto it psychologically.

You can...

-change beliefs and still need certainty
-reject biblical inerrancy and still need to be right
-become progressive and still split humanity into enlightened and ignorant

Take your deconstruction deeper than theology.

I'm not sure it's exactly "lazy", but it's a lot of lazy thinking where they start with the conclusion of right-wing Christian Nationalism, find incoherent scripture to get close enough to justify it, then fall back on "inerrancy" to get around the incoherence.

This is going to be good. 👇

And probably make waves. Also good.

Not even Protestant per se but American evangelical “”””””biblical inerrancy””””” brain combined with naive liberal Xtian “Jesus was a communist” stuff that gets people into a ”original = authentic=good” mindset and then the Haredi with the gear are “authentic”
