Day 2: Star Trek TNG S4E17 "Night Terrors"

Not a traditional spooky example, but the slow and unexplained and seemingly inescapable cognitive/emotional/functional dwindling and limited ship's power counts as a form of (uncomfortably relatable, at least for the former) psychological horror to me.

I don’t know if it’s petty or not, but I have some angry envy over people having colder weather while I’ve been dying from the heat here.

My mental health decline *is* tied to this inescapable heat.

I’m sure my mental health WILL improve once the sun goes totally away.

NRF Europe: tech transformations prevalent among major retailers
Retail executives from leading merchants and specialist technology providers returned to Paris for the second European event from the US-based National Retail Federation (NRF) that showcases cutting-edge technologies and provides a platform for the latest industry thinking. Not surprisingly at such events, artificial intelligence (AI) is inescapable, but what was also evident this year at NRF Europe was the growing body of evidence that larger organisations are integrating AI-powered solutions alongside undertaking wholesale changes to their underlying technology infrastructures. This has certainly been the case at Debenhams, which offloaded its physical stores and has adopted an online marketplace model selling products from 25,000 different brands and retailers, which does not involve holding any products in warehouses. Dan Finley, CEO of Debenhams, says: “It’s been a fundamental transformation of the business model and it’s worked really well. We now see ourselves as a tech-led business. We’ve completely changed all the technology over the lpst two years. It’s delivered greater efficiencies.” On top of the core IT systems, AI is being used to revolutionise areas such as the merchandising function, with price changes now possible across the 25,000-30,000 brands’ products in only minutes, and website content including descriptions and images can be...

🪴A level of ominous framing that makes the pumpkining feel inevitable, inescapable, no matter what path you take... A commentary on the cultural magnetism of Halloween...? Or the average furry artist we follow in October? That's for you to decide....... - Annie

Yes to obvious. Yes to inescapable.
Olivia Dean's "I've Seen It" is accused of copying Bill Withers' "Just the Two of Us" in a new lawsuit.

The publisher behind Withers' catalog calls the similarities “obvious and inescapable.”

Aloha to you, Maricella

“We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable - but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words.”

~ Ursula K. Le Guin

humanity, our very essence, is inescapable. our emotions, rage, compassion, hate. two sides of the same coin, intractably bound. that which inspires us to our greatest good is also the cause of our greatest evil.

even if you make the argument that gAI is a valid form of expression, the stagnation is inescapable.
gAI itself depends on the continuance of self-elected expression and artistic craft in order to progress in any meaningful way - it has nothing further to offer than it has already consumed.

“Hshshshs, be ssssure to hold your breath…”

The massive anaconda whispers teasingly as they flick their tongue against your ear. Your body is bound in their inescapable coils, dragging you deep beneath the water.

“I’ll find us a nice place where you’ll forever stay with me…”

I do think the folks specifying it's public/celebrity roles they object to someone holding after doing this have a point. Having someone's name/face become inescapable is a bad situation.

It's going past that to, effectively, "they can never be trusted at all with anything" that's just...really?

Suuuuper interesting, I was not tracking this. The judge found the law criminalizing noncitizen voting is a voter qualification statute, and therefore outside of Congress’s power.

Surprisingly, this is an issue of first impression!

I've been trying to record some of my work on the orkanauts, but going through some of the footage, I'm having to confront the fact that my hands shake a lot. Like, I don't see it, day to day, but it's inescapable in video.
