First responders in Beeville, Texas, carried out a dramatic rescue after a vehicle became trapped and partially swept away by rapidly rising floodwaters during severe storms. The incident occurred at a low-water crossing about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio, where heavy rainfall quickly overwhelmed the roadway and turned it into a dangerous flood zone. According to local authorities, the driver entered the crossing before realizing how quickly conditions were deteriorating, and within minutes the vehicle was being pushed toward a creek by fast-moving water. Emergency crews, including police officers and firefighters, responded to the scene and attempted to warn the driver, but the situation escalated rapidly. As the vehicle became increasingly submerged, responders discovered that an infant was inside. A police officer ran through the rushing water, reached the car, and opened the door to retrieve the baby, who was secured in a car seat. The officer then carried the infant back to safety, where another responder used a jacket to shield the child from heavy rain. Authorities confirmed that both the baby and the driver were safely rescued without injuries. Officials later released body camera footage of the incident to highlight the dangers of floodwaters, emphasizing how quickly conditions can change and how even shallow moving water can sweep vehicles off the road. They urged the public to avoid driving through flooded areas and to respect road barricades, warning that bypassing closures can put lives at serious risk. The department stressed that no destination is worth endangering lives during extreme weather events.
