I said this exact thing to my liberal colleagues in 2017. The moment you mention repression, they scoff and shut down.
There is a categorical refusal built into their innermost conviction that arguments cannot reach.
And that predictably sets them up for defeat.

Album Of The Day: Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder

Released 50 years ago today, this is the 18th studio album by the music legend. I understand why many consider this one of the best albums of all time, as Stevie Wonder is making excellent music throughout this album's lengthy runtime.

I genuinely don’t want to use language that upsets anyone or diminishes, or trivialises anything to do with mental health struggles or illness. BUT. Alexandr Wang, Meta’s AI chief is absolutely off his fucking nut. This cunt is properly fucking crackers. Absolutely fucking batshit.

No, I don’t. I’ve been following this for decades and understand the nuance and reality of the middle east. It is you who has been captured by nefarious propaganda that confirms your innermost biases. The arc of history is long and the antisemites are always on the wrong end of it

Spent the week re-reading Blood Meridian & found this lengthy essay on its gnostic themes very interesting. Judge Holden as an archon, an agent of evil whose task is to destroy even the innermost, hidden thought of goodness? I buy that.

New sneakers!

Had my eye on Globe Sneakers for a while, when I put them on the skunk said they looked like something a cartoon bear would wear- (👍?!)

Wore them one day and they ALREADY smell sweaty and sniffable...!

Just give me some time and I'll change the color of those socks...

What is the closest any object has gotten to the sun?
When you think of objects close to the sun, Mercury, the solar system's innermost planet, probably comes to mind. But has any other object — natural or artificial — gotten closer to our star? And what's the closest an object has gotten to the sun while still escaping? Many objects have reached much closer than Mercury, including asteroids, comets and spacecraft, experts told Live Science. At its closest point to the sun, called perihelion, Mercury comes within 29 million miles (47 million kilometers) of our star, according to NASA. But several known asteroids come even closer. Scott Sheppard, an astronomer at Carnegie Science, an independent research institute in Washington, D.C., said such asteroids, with orbits that cross Mercury's, are called Mercury-crossers. They have highly eccentric orbits, meaning "they did not form in this location but were likely scattered from the main asteroid belt towards the Sun," he told Live Science in an email. A search through NASA's Small-Body Database for such asteroids shows 2024 YL3 is the current record holder. This 463-foot-long (141 meters), skyscraper-size rock has a perihelion of 6.4 million miles (10.3 million km). Another group of celestial objects, though, may beat 2024 YL3. These are proposed asteroids...
