Two completely different flies blowing bubbles in my garden - both seen today. First two pics are some kind of Anthomyiidae - root maggot flies - but not sure of the exact genus or species. Third pic is a bluebottle, quite a lot bigger than the first one. #insect #insectodon #fly #bubble #photography #Macro

A Red Admiral (vanessa atalanta) butterfly resting on a grey shimmering metal bar on a balcony. It's photographed from behind above, a bit sideways, so its left wing is fully visible, while its right wing is aligned parallel to the view. The upper third of the wing is very dark brown, with some white spots and white border. Then there is a bright orange band across and continuing at the border of the lower half-wing, with some regularly spaced black spots. The inner part of the wing is lighter brown, as is its body. Its long feelers alternate between black and white. In the background below are some bushes and leaves on a path out of focus.

2026 is ongetwijfeld zo'n jaar.

Went to a 'vide maison' ('empty house', yard sale) earlier.

Forgot about French lunch breaks (2hrs, but finally open eeehh.. *sometime* after 2pm)

Watched the pretty butterflies instead.

More bees n' blossoms. This is someone's magnificent vegetable garden, with flowers to attract bees along the wall.

I stopped to watch them for several minutes, and admire the fruit trees and chickens.

We found a European Mole Cricket (freshly emerged) on our walk yesterday. Very big one.

(Lusha is no longer interested as I herd this guy towards the verge /away from traffic)

A large dusty brown cricket, viewed from above, showing its legs, segmented abdomen and wings. He's busy crawling over some grass at the edge of a road. Close up of the face of a no longer curious, very bored wolf dog. Leave the bugs alone please, there's walking to do. She has a long snout, big black nose, and dark brown eyes set in a pale brown face with masked fur like a husky. Part of a road, leaf strewn roadside, and field on the other side can be seen behind the dog

It's a hard knock life for them.

Close-up of a sprig of dill with three newly hatched baby caterpillars next to their empty eggshells, which they are about to eat. Two black eggs are visible that have not yet hatched. Sprig of dill with 10 newly hatched black caterpillars. Because a few are somewhat hidden among the green of the dill, I have marked them with an red arrow.

More rescued swallowtail eggs are about to hatch. Some of the eggs have turned black, which means the caterpillars will soon nibble their way out.
