Though the Church remains a subject of controversy, the election of Pope Leo XIV carries significance. His background reflects a commitment to human rights, equity, and social outreach that transcends institutional criticism.

9. These school districts, and others, recognize the stakes and are refusing to fold, standing firm in their commitment to protect transgender students—students who lack the institutional power to fight back on their own against an administration determined to erase them.

If you want to know where the real change-work, the most committed teaching, and the most effective student-success initiatives are happening, *and* where those all receive the best institutional commitment and support, it's at our community colleges.

Like, really. What do we think is stronger? Institutional, capital, & civil society commitment to protecting Fed independence or Trump's dictatorship?

I think we're going to find out

Literally a report out today said that between Jews and Muslims, Muslim students are way more likely to be mistreated and it’s part of their institutional commitment bsky.app/profile/chan...
Harvard’s position is that they will be anti-Palestinian on their own terms. Remember that.

This is a terrifying sentence

"implementation of maximally flexible civil commitment, institutional treatment, and “step-down” treatment standards that allow for the appropriate commitment"

The “Deloitte Pride Float” was good specifically because it did not represent a strong institutional commitment to LGBT rights and was instead a somewhat insincere attempt to court the favor of the LGBT community. I struggle to understand a theory of mind for people who didn’t get that.

I've been as critical of Chief Justice John Roberts as anyone, but under his leadership, the Supreme Court has emerged as a powerful and important institutional check on Donald Trump ballsandstrikes.org/very-serious...
John Roberts, the Supreme Court’s Fearless Defender of Democracy
The chief justice’s principled commitment to the apolitical rule of law has been exactly what America needed in this moment.

this is what the bias towards transmasculinity in trans studies has left us with btw

an institutional commitment to transmisogynistic exclusion so that they can do transemasculation in peace

The Reform Movement’s institutional commitment to Israel is going to outright kill the denomination

🔥🔥Harvard professors of government @ryanenos.bsky.social and Steven Levitsky (experts in democracy) urge Harvard to come to defense of American democracy, highlighting how “The defense of democracy transcends partisan or policy debates.”

Not for nothing, as a high schooler I chose Swarthmore over Yale because I was impressed by its strong institutional commitment to social justice (relative to other places, anyway).

Seems like they're determined to trash that legacy.

“What if Trumpism waned, MAGA cracked up, the public rediscovered its commitment to liberalism, and . . . our institutions were already so corrupted that they were beyond repair?”

What If It’s Already Too Late?
Institutional rot or ideological infection—either way, a real “Deep State” is already taking shape.

The commitment of institutional Dems to abide by the rules is as breathtaking as it is stupid
As Mike Johnson works to bury the Gaetz report Hakeem Jeffries is talking about - checks notes - bipartisanship.

We didn’t dismantle USAID under Bush. There was at least still some institutional and ideological commitment to “compassionate conservatism” and “hearts and minds” during that era. The Trumpists see soft power as weakness.

If you're wondering why nobody really talks about the devastating impact COVID continues to have on Americans it's at least in part because of an institutional commitment to memory-hole it.

The framers presumed that Congress would maintain some level of institutional commitment and jealousy.

A major corrosive force appears to be fear of the party base in the face of an authoritarian sociopath as party leader with no understanding nor commitment to institutional or social norms

We do indeed have a "deep state". It is a testament to the enduring strength of the U.S. government—deep in expertise, deep in commitment to stability, and deep in safeguarding democracy. It’s built on institutional knowledge and resilience. It is a pillar of our society, not a nefarious force.

Congressional Republicans want to root out fraud and investigate institutional abuses? Fine.

Let’s start at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Their commitment to accountability shouldn’t end where their loyalty to Donald Trump begins.

"Shifting homeless individuals into long-term institutional settings for humane treatment through the appropriate use of civil commitment will restore public order."The cruelty he has perpetrated upon immigrants has now moved to some of our most vulnerable citizens. #ResistFascism
This is an executive order that lays the groundwork for sending homeless people and people with mental illness to concentration camps to be "civilly committed." It was never going to stop with immigrants.

This is horrifying beyond words.
