biocharkit: Biochar Characterisation and Adsorption Data Analysis
A toolkit for analysing biochar characterisation and batch adsorption experiments. Provides functions to parse structured sample identifiers encoding pyrolysis conditions, read raw FTIR and XRD instrument output, compute adsorption capacity and removal efficiency, fit adsorption isotherms following Langmuir (1918) &lt;<a href="https://doi.org/10.1021%2Fja02242a004" target="_top">doi:10.1021/ja02242a004</a>&gt; and Sips (1948) &lt;<a href="https://doi.org/10.1063%2F1.1746922" target="_top">doi:10.1063/1.1746922</a>&gt; among other models, fit adsorption kinetics following Ho and McKay (1999) &lt;<a href="https://doi.org/10.1016%2FS0032-9592%2898%2900112-5" target="_top">doi:10.1016/S0032-9592(98)00112-5</a>&gt; and Chien and Clayton (1980) &lt;<a href="https://doi.org/10.2136%2Fsssaj1980.03615995004400020013x" target="_top">doi:10.2136/sssaj1980.03615995004400020013x</a>&gt; among other models, fit batches of samples at once, compute van't Hoff thermodynamic parameters, baseline-correct and pick peaks in FTIR spectra, deconvolve XRD patterns into a crystallinity index, compute BET surface area following Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller (1938) &lt;<a href="https://doi.org/10.1021%2Fja01269a023" target="_top">doi:10.1021/ja01269a023</a>&gt;, compute proximate and ultimate analysis summaries, build correlation matrices with p-values, and produce publication-style base-graphics figures including 600 dpi TIFF export. Built on base R ('stats', 'graphics', 'grDevices') so it has no dependency on packages that require external CRAN network access to install.

Build an Execution Receipt Wrapper for LLM API Calls
Model integrations are easy to instrument badly. Logging every prompt creates unnecessary data exposure. Logging only the model name leaves too little evidence when a production response needs investigation. An execution receipt offers a middle path: preserve operational metadata without copying the full interaction into a general-purpose log. What belongs in the receipt? Useful fields include: request and task identifiers; prompt, policy, and schema versions; endpoint alias; start time and latency; usage measurements; validation outcome; fallback or retry status. Application request ↓ Redaction and classification ↓ Model endpoint ↓ Output validation ↓ Execution receipt store Teams evaluating model endpoints for this architecture can place VectorEngine behind the same application-owned wrapper and receipt format. Disclosure: this article includes an external referral link for readers who want to explore the platform. TypeScript-style pseudocode type Receipt = { requestId: string; task: string; promptVersion: string; endpointAlias: string; startedAt: string; latencyMs?: number; contractPassed?: boolean; fallbackUsed: boolean; status: "started" | "completed" | "failed"; }; async function invokeWithReceipt(input: unknown, ctx: Context) { const started = Date.now(); const receipt: Receipt = { requestId: ctx.requestId, task: ctx.task, promptVersion: ctx.promptVersion, endpointAlias: ctx.endpointAlias, startedAt: new Date(started).toISOString(), fallbackUsed: false, status: "started" }; try { const result = await invokeEndpoint(input, ctx.endpointAlias); receipt.latencyMs = Date.now() - started; receipt.contractPassed = validateOutput(result); receipt.status = "completed"; await appendReceipt(receipt); return result; } catch (error) { receipt.latencyMs = Date.now() - started; receipt.status = "failed"; await appendReceipt(receipt); throw error; } } This example intentionally excludes raw input and output. If investigation requires content access, store it under a separate retention and authorization policy rather than embedding it in every receipt. Receipts should also be append-oriented and versioned. Editing old records in place makes later reconstruction harder. The goal is modest: retain enough evidence to understand how a model-backed feature executed, while collecting no more content than the workflow requires.

At the PID symposium Persistent Identifiers (PID) in #biodiversity #data life cycle, @dschigl of @GBIF talks about extending the lifetime of all evidence that we have to ensure we have adequate evidence for extrapolation. #PID are a key instrument for that. @unitartu

"Title text: The debate over the correct Messier number for the Ship of Theseus is ongoing."
One for the data archivists arguing over unique digital identifiers for records! If the tide gauge has a new instrument, on a rebuilt pier, across the harbour, upriver, when does it become a new gauge?

A note before you start The Decision Rights Mapper is released as a free, open tool under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. That openness is intentional, and it carries a corresponding responsibility for anyone who uses or distributes the tool. This is a reflection instrument for teachers. It was designed with care to resist becoming a surveillance or evaluation tool. No identifiers are collected.
