49. Replacing GDPR: risk is weakening personal data protections, undermining the arrangements that allow info to flow between the UK and EU. Businesses operating internationally will need to complying with two different regulatory regimes. Uk already has same deal as NZ it is called UK-GDPR

the GDPR making it illegal does not actually mean it isn't being done.

Isn't he confusing GDPR with LGBT?

What’s wrong with DHH is that he’s a racist but tech bros also HATE the way GDPR sets even the tiniest limits on how much data they can scrape

And my dude, look up French power stations
Honestly, what is wrong with these people?

Additional point is that the EU Commission, along with the right-leaning MEP collective elected in the last Parliamentary EuroElection, have a stated policy of 'streamlining' GDPR.
One worrying thing that comes up in this podcast is that US firms are lobbying to weaken GDPR to allow more of the data of EU citizens to be used for training genAI. GDPR is one of those rare things; an EU regulation that people can name, and which is valued by the huge majority its citizens.
The Irish government's International AI Summit was a heavy-handed pitch for the AI industry, and we weren't buying it.

Get our full review of the summit and satellite events that were much more meaty in our latest episode.

Jenrick has set out how Reform would maximise our “Brexit freedoms”.
And this is their list. This is the very best they can come up with.
“Re-legalise imperial units”
It’s truly pathetic that this is the pinnacle of their Brexit fever dream. And that anyone would still back this ruinous idiocy…

Someone needs to ask what they see as specific advantages of a NZ privacy act over GDPR alignment with Europe
