Paper Mario 64, 25 years old

The October 5, 2001, Paper Mario 64—the first installment in the Paper Mario series developed by Intelligent Systems in partnership with Nintendo was released in Europe. I got it on the day of its European release and finished it around the third week of November 2001. This game was a fantastic experience, especially since it was my first Mario brothers RPG at the time—unfortunately, we poor europeans never had the chance to play Super Mario RPG : The legends of 7 stars due to its delayed release on the Super Famicom. Fortunately, this injustice was rectified thanks to the Wii Virtual Console version released on August 22, 2008, the Wii U Virtual Console version on December 24, 2015, and the remastered version released on Switch 1 on November 17, 2023. It also offers excellent replay value, with the option to complete side quests to extend the fun if you’re determined to achieve 100% completion and its greatest strength is its soundtrack, which ranks among the best I’ve heard from Nintendo. This game also laid the groundwork for what would eventually become Luigi’s Mansion 1, as revealed in one of the pages of Luigi’s diary found in the secret basement he dug while Mario was away during chapter 3 where the green plumber mentions that he’d really like to have his name in the title of his future game— a dream that eventually came true, as he became the mascot for the Game Cube launch. To all european gamers, how does it make you feel to look back on this excellent Nintendo 64 game that marked the beginning of the Paper Mario series ? As for me, it certainly brings back memories of that time when I had just started middle and high school and was gradually beginning to recover from the tragedy of the September 11, 2001, attacks. I love this game so much that I downloaded the OST over 11 years ago and saved it on a USB drive.

This same idea scales up in modern AI systems:
learn from data → predict.

Linear regression isn’t about complexity.
It’s about building intuition — and realizing you can understand how intelligent systems learn.

As a science, we have to adopt rigorous evaluations that identify what #IntelligentSystem #AIAgent #Agent behavior should be & measure if it works as intended. Move beyond a 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮-𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 metric (accuracy) on a 𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘬-𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 benchmark. Adopt practices from #HCI, #psychology, #economics. (2/8)

#AI #ML evals measure accuracy on benchmarks, telling us how algorithms compare with each other. But, not much about how an #IntelligentSystem should be built. How do we make evals more informative? (1/8)

Princess Rosalina having been kidnapped by count Niark of Super Paper Mario having failed a few years ago to develop her plan having been dismantled by the Mario brothers, princess Peach and Bowser. To satisfy his perversion and twisted mind, he bewitched Rosalina to force her to wear a sadomasochistic suit so that he could better understand the beauty of his body after having firmly tied/gagged her.

Finally, I'm all done with this! All thanks to my Tablet and auto clicker. I was able to do other things while farming HM, like go for a walk, do preparations and more.
