Four posts this week about buying on purpose: the warehouse, the wait, the ranking, and the dollar. The last one says what Mahhala does about each today, and nothing we haven't built. Search with no paid boost. A front page a person arranges.

A better way to find things: why we built Mahhala
Four posts about buying on purpose, and what we did about each one. What Mahhala does today, what it does not do, and where the product opens.

At an independent store the dollar pays a landlord, an accountant, a printer, and the maker, all nearby, and then it buys lunch. At a chain most of it leaves for a headquarters in another city.

What a dollar does at an independent store

A feed has two jobs: keep you looking, and carry what someone paid to place. Neither is about what you'd like to own. McKinsey's survey this year found feeds and AI answers trusted least for product research, and used anyway.

The thing you ordered doesn't exist yet. That's the whole reason it's slow, and it's the good part. It was made because you asked, which is also why it won't end up in the pile the EPA counts every year.

Free two-day delivery isn't free. The driver was paid, the truck burned fuel, and the cost is in the price. The promise only works for things made in bulk and parked in a warehouse near you, so it picks the warehouse over the small shop every time.

The hidden cost of free two-day delivery
Free two-day delivery is not free. Someone pays for the warehouse, the box, and the trip back. Here is who pays, and what it does to small makers.
