I like asking them to create a soundtrack. Can help get into fun discussions of tone in addition to intertexuality, allusions, & Tradition & Individual Talent

I like to live dangerously, which is to say I willingly subject myself to a Netflix original film that depicts the filming of a reality dating show knowing I am almost certainly going to lose my mind.

(Casting Harry Jowsey in a bit part is some good intertexuality, points for that).

yes! you’re right on the money. a long essay or collection of essays. i feel like intertexuality in film and metacommentary on movie watching is my lane.

where are my intertexuality scholars at, and how do we make sense of this given the historical and current geopolitical context?
Perfect final video for TikTok no notes

Cheeky bit of intertexuality there.

Ahahaha the intertexuality we didnt know we needed

I am actually infuriated by this assumption, as writers and artists of all kinds, that if our work runs up against the audience’s ignorance (vocabulary, intertexuality, &c.) this is somehow a failing, our fault and something it is our responsibility to avoid.
Obviously. And the world is in any case full of references to unfamiliar things, if people are perplexed surely they can look it up?

the intertexuality between When Harry Met Sally and Pretty Woman
What would you talk about for 19 hours?

Ugh the facile “intertexuality must always be read the most literal way as saying things are happening in a shared universe” idea is one of my big media literacy pet peeves

… I also thought it funny that Holt was in Renfield and Dafoe was in Shadow of the Vampire. Interesting intertexuality there

it's so good. genuinely moving treatment of faith. (also i cannot help but think, in a movie about a charismatic priest, casting Hot Priest from fleabag was a bit of intertexuality)
Wake Up Dead Man is on Netflix starting today so just wanted to remind everyone that it is not only a sharp and fun mystery (as we've come to expect from the series) but also an exploration of what it means to be a community of faith and sacramentality and pastoral practice and ARGH it's so good.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh

Was expecting WAKE UP DEAD MAN to be a fun @rianjohnson.bsky.social mystery flick and it absolutely was but was NOT expecting it to be one of the best movies about the Church that I have ever seen?!

I feel like I knew all those characters. And a sacramental formula brought me tears?!

(intertexuality is a vital part of my whole praxis as a writer and a thinker: bsky.app/profile/thed... and the auto-correct tried to change that to intersexuality which is in an interesting reading of it. 🤔)
the punishment for wearing pants instead of a dress in ohio *laugh track played out of a speaker under the puppet show, audience applauding, hooting and hollaring, some guy with the tone of the kool-aid man yelling out OH YEAH, this part makes you uncomfortable, you don't know why the friendly...

Keaton’s Vulture fills the Norman Osborn role of being both a threat to Spider-Man and a disapproving adult to Peter Parker, without the baggage of actually being a “new” Osborn.

The intertexuality of his having played one of the other great superheroes a generation earlier is icing on the cake.

Showing an exact replica of the Pieta was a bad, bad move.

- The Peter Pan thing is a surpisingly deep cut (the play! most people don't even know the play exists, do they?), I didn't expect ~intertexuality~ other than Wonderland.

Hey Siri, show me an example of intertexuality.

I'm afraid intertexuality is now banned according to Joseph Fink 😅

Βλέπω το "Όνομα του Ρόδου" στο Κανάλι της Βουλής. Πρόκειται περί ιδιοφυούς μυθιστορήματος (και συγγραφέως βεβαίως). Intertexuality all over

* Copyright is not designed to protect creative work: it protects rights holders instead.
* IP laws are never just about creativity - they apply to science and data too.
* IP may impede creativity - eg intertexuality, pastiche.
* IP laws governing terms, succession and ownership are in a mess.
How copyright threatens academic communication
Wikipedia has announced that it will shut for a day, in protest about threatened restrictions in the USA which will enable rights-holders to shut down sites that breach copyright. My website, like …

Whoever wrote the book of Samuel was clearly riffing off the wife who keeps hearing her name being called but it's just her husband's farts in Yasujiro's Ozu's GOOD MORNING. Love to see intertexuality at play.

also bringing someone in from succession is such a big brain move (rips open shirt to reveal "i love intertexuality" tattooed across my chest)

those are a lot of big words to say that it is a feature, not a bug, of modern popular culture that people do not understand sub/meta/para/intertexuality anymore. It's just not taught. Everything must work on a surface level and a surface level only, and now increasingly as 2nd screen "content"

the absolute line feels like the result of someone at DC seeing manga taking up entire sections at book stores and going "wait. maybe we oughta take some notes". doesn't solve the intertexuality issues but it's at least interesting

characters who exist as their own context in this sort of pseudo-folkloric way have their place. I love all star superman and the dark knight returns is real fun. but modern readers have made it clear that intertexuality is stale.
