The characters are delightful, especially Senku, Kohaku, and Gen. There's intigue around why the world was petrified, and it does an incredibly cool thing about halfway through in regards to the overarching world plot. The shonen stuff is pretty good too, with Tsukasa being an interesting villain

Oh that's awesome! Now I must read it as well. But yah, premise has had me sold for ages but I always have to judge my "Willingness to cope with horror" against my intrigue. Intigue finally won and I'm so glad it did!

Just finished Shadow Thieves by Peterbl Burns. What a treat of a book! This has everything you would want in a great MG - a secret, mysterious school, a fascinating world full of intigue, twisty turny adventure, and a brave but kind protagonist at its heart.
