#involuntary-medication
I'm not mentally ill today - I have no MH diagnoses, take no medication other than testosterone, am not in therapy, do not experience daily distress.

But the 1st half of my life was marred by mental health struggles, including several inpatient stays. The first of those was involuntary.
A Trump order seeks to impose involuntary confinement on homeless and mentally ill Americans.

Trans people are already at a higher risk. But a nightmare scenario of mass confinement hangs over the order - the right defines trans people as inherently mentally ill.

If we don’t change course soon, it will be too late.

SO the mass shooter has been ID'd, I RT'd the points on the shooter.

But the fact that he was hospitalized over the summer with psychosis means that the shitty mental health laws being pushed right now, are going to be pushed a lot harder. (Involuntary committals/forced medication)

Monthly cat medication day. AKA involuntary human blood donation day.

My medication is life saving. Before I came out, my spouse was figuring out how to put me in an involuntary hold.

This is not a fucking game for me.
A while back, my psych and I went through the list of available antidepressants and realized I've tried just about every one. And while some have been effective, nothing has helped my chronic depression more than HRT.

This is not a fucking game for me.🤬

And if those medications start to cause involuntary movements, hey, there’s a medication for that too.*

*“May make those movements permanent.”

Even more okay!

Nurses & / or staff pissing off psych patients on purpose (to provoke behavior that will justify involuntary antipsychotic medication) can go fuck themselves.

You’re not clever & if you don’t have the insight to know that what you’re doing is WRONG, you shouldn’t be trusted with that kind of power.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

“The commonwealth of Virginia, where I am incarcerated, has effectively rendered me unable to have children—not through surgery or medication, but by keeping me imprisoned.”

Long prison sentences function as involuntary sterilization of incarcerated people, writes Mithrellas Curtis.

By keeping me imprisoned through the years when I might have become a parent, the prison system reproduces eugenicist logic

the involuntary movement (bc medication) is making it worse

If the person dies as a result of them withholding care/treatment, it should be prosecuted as involuntary manslaughter/murder.

They knew the person could die if they didn't get the medication or treatment they needed yet they deny it anyway for profit.

Another big offender of inappropriately referring people for involuntary treatment are parents of intellectually disabled adults and group home staff

The number of times I’ve shouted THEY NEED A BEHAVIOR PLAN AT HOME. NOT A MEDICATION CHANGE ought to be illegal

Hmmmm it sort of is, really!
Partners and spouses of the mentally ill will sometimes do the same thing to get victim status as the partner of a "psycho" and to undermine any reports of abuse. Then seek committals to gain near absolute control of their lives. Horrible abuse of the system

the fucking medication im on actually makes it easier to draw and suppresses these impulses/symptoms with my hand and involuntary movements and my god damn piece of shit psych is trying to take me off that medication for unrelated reasons and so ive had to start rationing it and im :|

Extremely anxious about starting my new meds tonight. The last new medication I tried I was shaking for 7 days straight and had involuntary face twitches for about two weeks.

Psych is really excited for me to try this med but I’m still mildly freaking out.

As I have said for years, start charging these parents with involuntary manslaughter. You had the tools to prevent your child's death, but you let them die. This is no different than putting up a pool fence, locking up your guns, or keeping your medication away from young kids.

“Eric Adams, a law professor, expects the bill will face a Charter challenge once it becomes law because it will detain people and force them to take medication against their will.”

So, for the past few days I've had tp start dealing with a fairly severe debilitating condition where, almost at random but made worse/triggered by a medication I was on and some heavy effort, I get uncomfortable to painful involuntary movements that sometimes put pressure on...

i recently stopped taking a medication because the side effects of random involuntary muscle movements were annoying, but now i am forced to reckon with the constant pain i was in before taking said med. and so i am once again asking why they can’t make medicine without clown behaviour

I did require stabilization from having had my bipolar seriously triggered by legitimate life stressors related to the threat of my housing stability that medication adjustments help & I fully admit it. I did not require a cop to handcuff me or the torture of involuntary hospitalization.

Involuntary electroshock and forced medication are still widely used today

Yes, and unfortunately that's a complex question to answer. In a perfect world the idea is that involuntary injections should only be given when the harm of not having the medication outweighs the harms of the restraint and human rights violation, and never for the convenience of others.
