I haven't posted a #BirdOfTheDay lately, and today's alt theme is #Blue, my favorite color, so here's a male Great Sapphirewing photographed at Hotel Termales del Ruiz in Colombia. This is the fifth largest hummingbird in the world and one of only two hummingbird species with iridescent primaries. 🪶

it's actually been a big personal point of contention with my artistic skill, as Blink, Sepalkha, and Kaeserion all have glittering, iridescent black and white necrodermis (think oil slick for black and opals for white), but I can't gd draw it. OTL i need to make figures of them irl and paint them.

✨Some info about both!✨

🔹The main difference is the Oscar de la Renta version contains hanging gems while Jenny Packham has more of a iridescent confetti look to it. I believe this is due to wear and tear of the jacket, as well as the crystals getting caught/stuck together and breaking off.
Taylor wearing the original Oscar version jacket. You can clearly see many crystal lines with bigger crystal drops hanging from the jacket. Taylor wearing the new Jenny version jacket. You can clearly see many iridescent confetti like lines coming from the jacket, although it is not as obvious as the original crystal drop design.
