Why was my homemade capacitor's data not quite linear? Fringe electric fields. The farther apart the plates, the more they matter, the higher the measured capacitance, and the more inflated the dielectric constant. youtu.be/r3io59l665E

From 12 years ago, but just saw this: David Kaplan (John’s Hopkins physics and you’ve probably seen him in Particle Physics) on how he got interested in physics.

(it was his enthusiastic HS physics T)

Fight the good fight, good people.🫡

Here is video analysis of Dean's bungee jump that includes air resistance and bungee mass. The max velocity is a little less and max acceleration is quite a bit less than my predictions. This make sense when including air resistance. I used PASCO Capstone's video analysis tool. #ITeachPhysics

Anyone else every question how textbooks all show Newton's 2nd Law as F=ma but Principia talks about ∆p=Ft?

When did that transition occur? Which textbook made that decision?

Student in my class: I feel so sorry for my calculator.
Me: Your calculator is probably having more fun this semester than it's had in its entire life.

Here is my physics analysis of your jump. The results check well with expected values. 3g max accel is not too bad. I am sure looking over the edge before you jump is the hardest part. Instead of ALT text, I included links to two YouTube videos that talk through a similar problem. #ITeachPhysics

Here's the differential equation that the angle obeys. lambda1 makes sure it doesn't slide and lambda2 keeps it in contact with the floor (they're both Lagrange multipliers attached to those constraints) #iteachphysics
