Koh Ker, Cambodia.

Less than two hours’ drive from its more famous cousin, Angkor Wat, this site was the capital of the whole Khmer empire from 928-944 CE.

It features a 40m-high stepped pyramid thought to have been the state temple of Emperor Jayavarman IV.

For those that are curious the game gave me Jayavarman VII as my leader, and I love nothing more than blowing things up with artillery attached to an elephant

Also kinda represents how I would like to rule: tits out and feeding the people

When Angkor was rediscovered in the early 20th century by French archaeologists, all of the temples had become overgrown--but none so spectacularly as Ta Prohm.

Notably, the altar is scattered with smaller icons, many headless, perhaps echoing episodes of Buddhist iconoclasm under Jayavarman VIII in the 13th century.

Others were later removed by colonial collectors and art brokers, entering museums and private collections abroad. 4/5

Oh and Catherine the Great of Russia. Khmer still needs an associated leader so maybe they will throw us a curve ball though and bring back Jayavarman VII.

I mean, kings like Jayavarman VII are from Earth like me, but I cannot take any credit for their accomplishments. #driveinmob

After the Khmer Empire declined and Ta Prohm was abandoned, the jungle began to reclaim the temple. Trees, like kapok and strangler figs, started growing from the temple walls and roof, their roots penetrating the stones. The presence of these trees gives Ta Prohm a unique and mystical atmosphere.
