“Freedom Jazz Dance” was recorded by Eddie Harris on this date (or Aug 9) in 1965. One of my favorite Ron Carter bass lines, and check out the bass drum pedal squeak in Billy Higgins’ sound. I love this track. #music #musicsky #jazzmusic #jazzsjy

Remarkably uplifting mid50s LP by BeBop legend (& Monk protege, something I just learned). Cover artist David Stone Martin seemed to portray' Powell's mental challenges in fairly heavy drawings. More...

#LunchtimeLP Two greats from the Detroit Jazz scene were born on this date, Hank Jones in 1918 and Kenny Burrell in 1931. In 1958 each joined recording sessions of 2 of my favorite albums. Hank Jones is on Cannonball Adderley's burning Something Else. Kenny Burrell is on Chet Baker's Chet. #jazzsjy
