FACT OF THE DAY. 12 March 1938. German troops marched into Austria, to complete the “Anschluss” (the union between Austria & Nazi Germany). Huge crowds greeted them, even though the occupation was a clear breach of the Treaty of Versailles. The British and French once again did nothing.

Many Irish in London during the Great Famine were deported to Ireland. These are (pre-Famine) removal receipts of the Connors from Cork who had left Ireland 5 years before but didn't meet the criteria to be deemed 'settled' in England. They faced starvation and disease on their return.

A few years ago I made a series of mini drawings of interesting Irish women (available as a print here www.ciaraioch.com/artprints/p/...) - this thread is a little information on the women featured, partly because it's useful, but mostly because I'm trying to be sustainable by recycling content.
